In this painting, the watcher gets a close-up peering through a keyhole, often in idyllic or fairy-tale setting.

An artist, like a child, travels with his eyes wide open. He looks at the sky, as Ulysses did when thirsting for knowledge, and sees a sea and a sailboat rushing into a port where the waters are calm. Climactically surrounding all of this, like the hymn of the universe, is a brightly shining sun! This painting brings to one’s attention the expansiveness and eternity of the Universe.

The artist represents the “flower” ship sailing among the islands of the terrestrial paradise. The pink glow of her gladioli sails illuminates all around. The sea surface is strewn with flower petals. The natives use them to approach the ship, greeting her with palm branches. Magnificent voyage turns into a triumphal procession. The vessel shown in the painting becomes in the artist’s artworks a symbol of revival and strengthening of the new life.

A single rose universally symbolizes "love at first sight", "you are the one", and "undivided attention". It is a minimalist, elegant gesture that conveys deep emotion, focus, and purity of feelings without the overwhelming flashiness of a large bouquet.

It’s placement on the wall amidst the city life symbolizes the sudden and unexpected nature of "love at first sight" and displays the power to grow in any conditions even without the soil. The rose bud irradiates the light of love and romance attracting the human souls as the moth gets attracted by the street lantern.

The connection between the elements of the world – air, sky, earth, and water – materializes in the form of a dense plasma cloud that resembles a hot air balloon. It is, in essence, a cloud that helps people share their thoughts and feelings with each other. Note, this painting was created before the complete and utter victory of the World Wide Web and “cloud technology.”

It seems like the thoughts of the two lovers, concentrating into that cloud convergence, lifted them up to the top of the hill. They can now fully enjoy all the magical colors of dawn. It is reminiscent of the poem, “Delights” by Valery Bryusov:

“The third of delights is when you are loved
Ever aware of someone right near,
By word unobtrusive together bound hard
The two of us fly over the hollows of fear.”
-Valery Briusov

Pandemic is the fear of extinction that has overtaken a large part of humanity. In the painting it is symbolically represented in the form of an elephant appearing against the peaceful savanna background wearing a gas mask. He is clearly unhappy with the role of a miserable ‘martyr’ and sufferer and that ‘crown’ of a mask is not the best image of him being protected from the pandemic!

Any minute now in a furious gesture he is going to kick the apparatus down to the ground – see the right knee bending in readiness. This young and strong creature rebels against the inability to smell and feel his home turf, the tropical forest. The self-isolation policy imposed by ‘higher powers’ has effectively deprived him of normal peer group interaction.

Self-isolation or absence of ‘the fellowship of equals’ rendered society helpless in the face of the spreading pandemic and turned the elephant into an easy prey.

We see a tiny bird in the painting that is not afraid to keep the rebel company. She is the young elephant’s newsagent ‘telling’ him the latest. And it is a reliable source of information as it comes straight from the real-time news network Twitter!

Dr. Robert Zarr, founder and medical director of Park RX America, explains that “we are often in a hurry to prescribe medication or refer the patient to a specialist, whereas the root of the problem lies in the way of life.” Park Prescriptions is now a national project in the US that helps people to improve their health by connecting with nature - park visits are prescribed as part of the routine health checks.

Australia and New Zealand have similar ‘green prescription’ initiatives and in the south-west of England in Devon’s Dartmoor and Exmoor a local three-year pilot scheme is under way.

Dr. Zarr thinks the seed had fallen on good soil and the environmental stewardship movement is starting to grow.

A study conducted by a Stanford University group in 2015 shows that a walk in the park helps to decrease activity in the region of the brain responsible for generating heavy thoughts (urban dwellers being more susceptible to such states of mind according to the scientists). Similar research suggests that adults who regularly exercise in nature have higher levels of concentration and are much less prone to depression.

The late Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, was known for holding meetings while having a walk. More and more managers at the Silicon Valley companies and other large corporations are now using ‘oxygen baths’ not only as a means of destressing but also as a business tool. As research data becomes available, increasing numbers of medical professionals recommend nature walks to help their patients overcome digital addictions and treat depression.

A lively Youth with a skipping rope springs forth from the cold realms of the distant Cosmos and loops it round the bright ball of the Sun – he is sent (“commanded by a powerful glance”, as our great Pushkin says in his poem The Sack Tree) by Jupiter the god to outline the future trajectory of Jupiter the planet. We see the lifegiving radiation of the Sun spread warmth over the Earth, the v***r rising in clouds above the rocky landscape of an (as yet) uninhabited planet of the Solar system.

In the evening the Sun moves to the West and disappears behind the horizon. When this happened in the ancient times people were often afraid of the falling night – the darkness was also associated with a solar eclipse when the Moon completely or partly obscures the Sun and to them it looked like a fearsome dragon attacking the Light and gobbling it up bit by bit. They fancied an awful battle was taking place in the sky: the avaricious beast tearing apart the body of a good old Sun who is probably putting up a fight but what chance does it stand against such a formidable enemy! If only they could find a way to help the Sun!

Unable to reach up to heaven people would start making a hell of a noise by banging pots and pans, using drums and trumpets and eventually the Sun reappeared. They would then heave a great sigh of relief: “The Dragon is returning the Sun to us!”

These are all parts of a cosmic drama where our beloved Sun is at least one of the main characters.

The bridge fundamentally symbolizes transition, connection, and the overcoming perils of life. Only the righteous or heroic, such as the butterfly base jumpers can cross the bridge. The bridge represents a link and passage between two distinct realms, states of being, or levels of consciousness. Crossing a bridge represents a point of no return or a major spiritual shift.

The caterpillar represents the unformed stage of existence, nascent potential, and the slow, preparatory work of becoming. While the butterfly symbolizes the liberated soul or final transformation, the caterpillar embodies the earthly foundation required to reach that state. We see the “base jumpers” getting ready for their leap of faith in an attempt to reach a different state of consciousness as the butterfly sails riding the ship to another realm on the “voyage of the soul”.

In Japan, the image of a butterfly has inspired the artists for hundreds of years. It is always associated with the best moments in life. Here, traditional celebrations and marches begin with “the dance of the butterfly.” Butterflies also accompany wedding ceremonies in Japan. But not all know that butterflies are the amazing and courageous travelers. In favorable winds Monarch butterflies from North America can cross the Atlantic to reach England, resting as needed on the decks of ships.

In ancient Indian tradition, the spider fashions a web from himself to produce the main component of the universe. It extends threads between the sky and earth, which act as the connection between the cosmos and the earth. This brilliant guess was confirmed by modern scientific theories describing the structure of the universe as the web of cosmic strings. The universal model of the web appears also in the structure of the Internet. The stream of information- the “spider’s silk” - traveling through cosmic satellites reaches the most secluded corners of the world. The World Wide Web contains the intellectual achievements of the world. It can be graphically depicted as a huge brain or a heavenly web that hangs over the world. The spider seen in the picture carries a world time clock on its belly. A notable detail from the world of spiders: the abdomens of black widow spiders carry a coloration that resembles an hourglass.

The role of the fish in the world’s creation was both active and passive in ancient myth. In the active version, a fish brings silt from the floor of the primeval ocean and creates land with it. The passive version has fish supporting the land, thus any sharp movement of the fish results in earthquakes.

In China and India the fish symbolizes rebirth. The fish is also a metaphor for Jesus Christ. In fact, the genus name for fish, ichthus is deciphered as the abbreviation of the Greek formula, Jesous Christos Theou Huios Soter. AS well, two of the Apostles Peter and Andrew were originally fishermen. Christ promises to make them “fishers of Men”. From this comes the allegorical sense of catching fish, or human souls, with a net as depicted in medieval art. How many souls have been caught in these nets since then? Man, inspired by his Creator, imitates this most artful and original creation.

In Polynesian mythology there is a wonderful legend about a strong man named Maui who possesses magical knowledge. He captures the sun into a specially fashioned trap making it shine longer and increasing the length of the day. He calms the winds, raises the sky that rested upon the earth in the beginning and- with the help of a specialized fishing hook- he lures a fish-island from the depths of the ocean floor.

People inhabit this island—Maui. Maui brings them fire, as did Prometheus, which helps them to prepare food. Like Prometheus, he battles other gods in an effort to give his people immortality. Famous songs about Maui are part of ritual dances and games of Polynesian natives.
