The Artist Behind the Art

New York born, outsider artist Helena Linakis creates paintings in mediums of acrylic and watercolor. Linakis' works are from the heart. “I start a story with each of my paintings,” Linakis says, “but I allow the viewer to join me in finishing the story with his or her own experiences and emotions.” Linakis is an artist with vision who can paint realistic images, but takes that skill and creates a more abstract painting that is greater than the sum of them both. An abstract realist who touches something in each of us. Our desire for the comfort and skill of the real and our need of those abstract aesthetics. Linakis’ works are in mixed media but her medium of choice is watercolor: hypnotic and addictive. The allure is multi-faceted, but it is the unique spontaneity of the medium that Linakis finds most fascinating.
