The Dunes Hotel and Casino lit up the Las Vegas Strip from 1955 until its unforgettable implosion in 1993, complete with a $1 million fireworks spectacular. When the property came down, most of its signage went with it.

The entrance sign you see here is one of the only surviving pieces, proudly restored by The Neon Museum in September 2025 and now on permanent display in the Neon Boneyard.

On this day in 1923, Betty Willis was born in Overton, Nevada. Willis broke barriers as one of the few women working in sign design, leaving her mark on the city's visual landscape through her work with YESCO and Ad-Art.

Her most enduring contribution? The iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, a diamond-shaped masterpiece of bespoke lettering and flashing neon that has welcomed millions of visitors to the city and remains one of the most recognizable signs in the world.
