It's the season of dance competitions and performances which means a lot of emotions and feelings surface that we may have been able to keep buried. The ups and downs are a hard lesson to learn for young dancers (sometimes for the professionals as well). Just remember that as wonderful as it is to receive recognition from your peers for your dancing, it takes a strong and confident person to not need it. It's that strength that we need to encourage and nurture. In competitions as it is in auditions and life, you will have times when others say 'yes' and you will most certainly have times when others say 'no'. Always remember WHY you dance. It's not primarily about awards and other success - worthy goals for sure and celebrate them when they happen. Instead it's for the immense love you have for it and how you can make someone's life better for having watched you on stage. The more you remember this, the more the love will show in your performance on stage. So light it up, first for yourself. The rest will take care of itself.
