The Chrisopher and Anita Murray Opera Las Vegas Studio at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is pleased to welcome Studio Artist, Miarphe Lapingcao!

Filipino-American soprano Miarphe Lapingcao is finishing her master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas under the tutelage of Dr. Alfonse Anderson. She graduated from Western Washington University (2025) with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the studio of Dr. Richard L. Hodges. An avid performer since childhood, Mia competed annually in the Concerto Competition at Western Washington University and served as the Voice Area Assistant during her final year of undergrad. Accolades include being named a winner of the 2025 WWU Concerto Competition with Ophelia’s Mad Scene from Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet.

Operatic credits include Morgana in Handel’s Alcina, Fanchette in Offenbach’s Le mariage aux lanternes, La Fée in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Jenny in Rorem’s Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters. She is an alumni of the American Institute of Musical Studies and the Berlin Opera Academy. Mia is honored to be named a 2026 - 2027 Studio Artist of Opera Las Vegas and is grateful to her family, friends, and mentors for their love and support.

Opera Las Vegas is thrilled to welcome Susan to the cast of Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri! 💃

A NorCal transplant and University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music grad, Susan has performed in everything from Così fan tutte and Eugene Onegin to The Barber of Seville, and has music-directed productions all around Southern Nevada.

By day? She’s inspiring the next generation as a local high school choir teacher. 🫶🎶

Now, she’s bringing all that musical energy to the stage as Zulma in this hilarious, colorful, totally chaotic Rossini classic.

Opera Las Vegas is thrilled to welcome Matthew Hanscom to the cast of Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri!

With more than 150 operatic performances to his credit, Matt has performed with companies including Sarasota Opera, Opera Southwest, Opera San José, Minnesota Opera, Wolf Trap, Santa Fe Opera, among others!

Now he’s bringing Taddeo to 1971 Las Vegas. 🎰
And if you know Rossini, you know Taddeo is in for quite a night. 😂

We’re so grateful for your support and for keeping this art form very much alive and thriving in our community.

🎭 Marc Callahan — Director
Award-winning director and designer Marc Callahan has created productions around the world, including at the Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera, Théâtre du Châtelet, and Opera Las Vegas. His work has been praised for its “jaw-dropping invention.” For L’Italiana, Marc takes Rossini’s larger-than-life comedy and puts it right in the middle of 1971 Las Vegas. Expect big characters, physical comedy, visual surprises, and plenty of Vegas style.

Christopher James Ray has conducted opera and symphonic repertoire across the United States and internationally, including work with Opera San José, the San Francisco Symphony, and Germany’s legendary Bayreuth Festival. Known for his clarity, sensitivity, and theatrical approach to music, Ray understands that in opera, the music tells the story. And with Rossini, that story moves fast! 💨
