VTC stands in solidarity with Black people in our community and across the nation. We believe that Black Lives Matter, and in the past weeks we have heard the clarion call for justice and an end to institutionalized racism. We have been listening, learning, and thinking about how our theatre can help uplift the voices of our Black community and how we can continue to play our part in doing the work necessary to end systemic discrimination.
As theatre makers we bring actions to words. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we bring actions to our words.
As such, we are launching Making Space - an open platform series - to create space in our theatre for the voices of Las Vegas with a focus on our communities of color.
Through Making Space, we welcome your ideas - wether it is a reading of new work or a fully produced show, a community gathering or a workshop for a new creation, perhaps a show meant for a live audience or a streaming event for more to view safely at home. Whatever the form it might take, we want to hear about it and help realize your ideas by making space for them. Our mission is to tell stories that bring us together. We believe that sharing stories encourages empathy which can bridge social divisions and create an equitable future where diversity is celebrated. Stories and art bring healing and connection and can also be a catalyst for action and a driver of change. While Making Space is open to the whole Las Vegas community we recognize that it is crucially important for us to be centering the experiences and stories of our Black community and people of color.
This is one of many more actions we can and will take. We acknowledge that allyship is a constant process of actions and it should not end with this news cycle.
Our hearts are with the BIPOC communities. We stand with you and will continue to amplify your voice and bring positive change within our theatre and our community.
