🌈 Good morning from your favorite weirdo! 🌈

A few recent events have had me reflecting on the parts of myself that I have been able to share with others through my art and this page, specifically revolving around the word WEIRD!

1. My niece gave me a gorgeous handmade bracelet with the word 🧿 WEIRD🧿 on it.

2. That reminded me of a gift I received from my family for my 30th birthday where they listed words to describe me and one of the most used words was 🫠WEIRD🫠.

3. Friends have been sending me posts about being 💕WEIRD💕 and nurturing your inner child.

All of these experiences made me feel so seen and loved.

They have reminded me that showing up authentically and loving your weirdness really does have an impact on not only your life but the life of the people around you and that there is so much power in being true to yourself.

There was a time where being called 🫠 WEIRD 🫠 made me uncomfortable. I didn't like feeling different because it usually made me feel less than, but I am so proud of how far I have come in realizing that being 🥳WEIRD🥳 truly is the biggest compliment because it means that you are being true to you even when it feels unpopular, scary, or isolating.

There will be people who don't like your 🌈 WEIRD 🌈 or try to make you feel less than, but in my experience it will also inspire others, invite others to also live in their truth, and help you to build the strongest community you have ever had.

So thank you for being here. Thank you for showing up every day with me. Thank you for loving my 💕WEIRD💕. I am truly honored and blown away by the fact that I get to be seen and loved by all of you here.

Also, keep sending me all the weird memes, posts, etc. They totally make my day!

Thank you to everyone who came out to and Market on Saturday.

I am always blown away by the community here in Vegas. Before I moved here, I was worried about finding connection in a bigger city. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found a community of people who value creativity, connection, and empowerment over competition and ego.

I have been crying happy tears all morning as I reflect back on the weekend because of the support I felt from every person who stopped by to look at my art as well as the other vendors and facilitators at the markets.

I loved catching up with friends and making new ones. If you stopped by to shop or even just say hi, I appreciate you. You have no idea how much you all fill my cup.

All of this is to say thank you for loving this little weirdo and my art. Thank you for allowing me to share my journey with you and supporting me along the way. Thank you for being my community, whether we have met in person or just online, I see you and I am happy you are here.

Reposting some of my favorite easy self care ideas as I get ready for a busy weekend!

Self care is often talked about as bubble baths and naps (which are great) but sometimes it's not always that pretty. Sometimes it means doing the small, every day tasks you have been putting off.

Here are 4 self care tips for today:

1: Cross something off the bottom of your to do list that has been there FOREVER! Just get it done now and then it will be off the list for good!

2: Wear something that makes you feel cozy and confident. Confidence doesn't always mean dressing in our finest clothes. Sometimes it means being able to recognize that we are worthy no matter what we are wearing.

3: Drink a full glass of water and fill up a reusable bottle for later. Your physical and mental health will thank you for staying hydrated.

4: Pause your social media apps for a bit. I recognize the irony of reading this online but social media can overwhelm our brains, especially when we are on it for long periods. Take a break.

I hope these help you to have a fabulous day today. Let me know which ones you try out or what other "boring" self care you swear by!

Yesterday I said goodbye to my classroom and to teaching for a while.

This was not an easy decision, but I know it was the right one for me right now. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school and I thought I would keep teaching forever.

The last few months have been full of tears as I have felt the relief and grief of shifting expectations while making this decision.

This school year was the hardest of my 8 years that I have taught so far. I put my heart and soul into my classroom and did not see the outcomes I envisioned. I have been more emotionally and physically exhausted than ever in my life and I have felt a decrease in my creativity and self confidence.

I don't know yet what the future looks like for me, but I am looking forward to reconnecting with myself, growing my artistry and creativity, and embracing the unknown.

Thanks for sticking by me through this transition. I know I haven't been as present on social media, but I needed a period of introspection. I am looking forward to posting more art now that I will have more time and energy for creating again!

10 years married to this amazing human! Thanks for being my best friend, adventure buddy, and shoulder to cry on.

I am so grateful that I found someone who supports my dreams, cheers me on, and knows the importance of play. I love that we get to let our inner kids play, heal, and grow together.

The last 10 years have been a wild and exciting ride. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!

Throwback Thursday post (I haven't done one of these for a hot minute.)

The prompt for today is to throwback to when I started.

I have been creating art my whole life, but I officially started Book Stitched Sky in 2018 as an Etsy shop. I then had my first table later that year at a mini comic con type event hosted by . I was terrified to show up, but was so so proud of myself when it was over.

I was selling hand painted 👟shoes👟 and a few acrylic paintings when I started. I love the idea of wearable art because it is a way for people to express themselves and share their interests with the world. However, just painting shoes was not sustainable due to the need for so many different styles and sizes. ✨️HOWEVER, I still love painting shoes so let me know if you want a custom pair!✨️

During the early years of Book Stitched Sky, I was also painting 20 🦓🦒🦎animal🦎🦒🦓 paintings at the end of each school year to give to my 8th grade students as a graduation present. I always hated myself during the process because it was a lot of stress and work on top of the normal stress that comes with the end of the school year, but being able to gift them to the students and explain why I chose each animal for each student was always my favorite part of the year. It was an incredibly powerful opportunity for us to strengthen our bind and for each student to feel seen, understood, and loved.

It is fun to reflect back on where I started. Since then, I have grown into Weird is a Compliment and have expanded my items to include prints, stickers, tshirts, hats, digital downloads, coloring pages, and cards.

I have come a long way in 5 years and can't wait to see how I continue to grow.

This feels like a big milestone and I am so incredibly grateful for everyone who has purchased from me online, at markets, or at Hey Maker while they have had my products.

I feel big things coming for Weird is a Compliment this year and I can't wait to grow with you and show you all of the cool ideas that have been swirling around in my head.
