The name of this cartoon series is at once a double entendre, in that one cartoon has no relation to the next, and that I am no relation to Shel Silverstein. And the fact that many are plays on words or common sayings, i.e., visual verbicide.
Compelled to draw, write, and otherwise create all my life, my impetus for single-panel cartoon drawing was sparked ca. 1977 while earning a BA in biolog
y from the State University of New York in Oswego. There, my roommates and I came upon two books by cartoonist, B.Kliban, who is otherwise most associated with cat humor: "Never Eat Anything Bigger Than Your Head and Other Drawings," and "Whack Your Porcupine and Other Drawings." And, more recently this has been overlain and oxygenated by Dan Piraro's "Bizarro," which I read daily in my local hardcopy newspaper, the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Oddly enough perhaps, not so much by Shel Silverstein, whose work I do also admire, though. Having compiled a few hundred over the years, I am now actively sending my cartoons to any online and printed publication accepting unsolicited submissions. Needing a place to put some of those rejected--and a couple actually recently accepted and published--in addition to stowing them in a desk drawer where many have resided for quite some time, this FB page and the website I've begun to develop will also become those repositories. Hope you are at least mildly amused. To the memory of Bernard "Hap" Kliban (January 1, 1935 – August 12, 1990)
