This one resonates in abstraction for most, although it draws toward the photographic.

Last one to share for the show.

All four larger scale works for the show are about encountering weather as a place of voice as a subject. It certainly seems to me that things are turning toward a strange and potentially difficult future with weather.

Listening to its voice becomes a necessity. It is a contemplative meditation.

I wrestled with this one. It’s of a mamatus cloud set with light stabbing through the spaces between.

I was caught in a state of wonder by the sight as it seemed impossible and threatening. The framing was an intention of size relationship comparison and a reference to smallness and the feebleness of our grasp of the electric.

I had a friend see the sky as a river early on in this one’s crafting. I can still see it. The place of abstraction grows for me in that read.

Letting abstraction in the closer look have more sway with this one. The multiple directions of looking at, into and above play with the mind. I find this one successful in its dreaming meditation.

It’s a funny thing, sometimes, sharing personal moments as an artistic rigor. This one is very special to me.

Metaphor and message run through it. This is an all time favorite.

I’m grateful for a great many things in this work. Wopila.

This intimate landscape is one of a return to the forest after the fire. The green and growing usurps the charred. The quiet of the forest persists in both realms, hearing the voices of destruction and the voices of new.

Hello friends. After I finished the Phoenix sculpture, I got to work on a new series of paintings. "Listening Patterns" is opening at Gallery onesixsix on June 20th. Please come for the opening reception from 2-5pm. 💙⚡

In it there are 12 smaller paintings that are meditations of listening to nature and its correlative language, discovering revealed patterns and beauty in small moments. The larger paintings are works of sitting in reverence of weather and its communication to us. Awing patterns of vastness emerge through identifying sense and natural rhythm.

Listening to the forces of wind, light, and water. It felt like witnessing a river’s release in the sky that day.

I think the hardest part of painting for me still is finding the rhythm of the painting. Listening, again, and again.

A return to these works. I found this work stunning in its unfamiliarity. I was surprised in the relationship of the land and stone interwoven in the upturned roots.

A life revealed in the place hidden.
