The Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to be sharing the stage with NMSU Combined Chorus this weekend. The vocal ensemble will also include soloists Holly Kara Mesarch and Michael Hix

Holly Kara Mesarch, soprano, is a versatile, award winning soloist and choral singer. After receiving her bachelor degree in Vocal Performance, she spent valuable time teaching voice, directing choirs, and a musical. She is a first-place winner at regional NATS competitions, and recipient of their “Most Promising Singer” award. Holly made her first mainstage appearance in 2023 as Annina in La Traviata and Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music, then in 2024 as Nurse/Elaine in Sunday in the Park with George. A “show stealer“ of a singer, her scene roles include Susanna from Le nozze di Figaro, Despina from Così fan tutte, and Adele from Die Fledermaus. She was a Chamber Choir singer in El Paso Choral Society, and the director/choral director for El Paso’s community presentation of Handel’s Messiah. Holly lives to share her lifelong passion for music through performance as an El Paso Opera Artist Ambassador, presenting as their Teaching Artist, and working as Director of Impact & Engagement– all while balancing family life with her husband and five sons.

Baritone Michael Hix is renowned for his “expressive voice” and “commanding stage presence,” earning critical acclaim worldwide. He has performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein, and Boston’s Symphony Hall. A distinguished concert and oratorio performer, his repertoire spans over 75 works. His recent album of solo bass cantatas by Christoph Graupner was released on the Affetto Label, distributed by Naxos, and is available on all streaming platforms. Hix’s European engagements include performances at the International Haydn Festival in Vienna and song recitals across Germany. He has collaborated with ensembles such as the Boston Pops,Oregon Bach Festival, and Arizona Bach Festival among others. Holding a Doctorate in Voice Performance from Florida State University, Dr. Hix is Professor of Voice and Chair of the Department of Music at the University of New Mexico.
