A couple of weeks ago, our NMSU Voice Area students shared their artistry, courage, and heart on stage — and what a beautiful night it was.

Thank you to our audience for showing up, listening deeply, and supporting these young artists. And an extra thank you to everyone who donated to help our students travel to the NATS conference. Your generosity makes real opportunities possible.

The NMSU Voice Area is holding auditions for prospective students on:

Whether you’re passionate about opera, musical theatre, art song, or building strong vocal foundations, we’d love to hear you sing and connect with you about your goals.

🎶 A pianist will be provided.
🎓 Learn more about our degree programs, performance opportunities, and vibrant Lyric Theatre community.

📣 Huge shout out and thank you to Danielle Talamantes and Kerry Wilkerson who gave three of our voice students a masterclass on February 2nd.

Danielle and Kerry are currently performing in El Paso Opera’s production of La Bohème.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. Seeing Hansel and Gretel come to life onstage has been pure magic, and that magic is woven into every costume and illuminated in every moment.
Huge thank you to our incredible costume designer, Maya Marquee, and to our brilliant lighting designer, Leigha Harvey! Your work truly ties this production together and brings the magic!

You won’t want to miss it! Music by Manuel Ponce, María Grever, Álvaro Carillo, y más!

What’s even cooler is that Raul transcribed and arranged some of these songs himself!!

Eight of our current and former NMSU Lyric Theatre students competed last weekend in the Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival of New Mexico’s “Das Lied” competition.

Grace Garcia won 1st place and $1,000 in the Music Ed division.

Olivia Chavez won 2nd place and $500 in the Mus Ed division.

Eliseo Cerecerez was hand/chosen to work with Pamela Dellal from Boston Conservatory in a masterclass.

We had the pleasure of seeing Jonathon Retzlaff and Jennifer McGuire make some serious magic in their recital titled “ Dies sind einige unsere Lieblingssachen (These are a few of our favorite things)”

Pamela Dellal’s lecture Recital on Songs of Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach inspired us all to get online to start buying C.P.E. Bach Repertoire!

The students and I both were reinvigorated and inspired by the all three masterclasses given by Pamela Dellal, Jonathan Retzlaff, and Jennifer McGuire! Not to mention all the wonderful artistry we witness by our colleagues from UNM, ENMU, and beyond!

And a HUGE SHOUTOUT to the VAASF staff pianist, Martha Dalager, for playing for our students! We couldn’t have done it without you! ❤️❤️❤️
