Bravo to the more than 40 violists from around the state who participated at the Violapalooza workshop/performance this weekend at UNM.

NMSU Professor Jorge Martínez-Ríos offered a masterclass and an All-state workshop during the event. Also Bravo to NMSU students Laynee Stokes and Eli Hajagos for such wonderful viola quartet performance with two graduate students from UNM.

Meet Adriel Mendez, one of our soloists for tomorrow’s concert. 3 PM, Atkinson Hall.

Adriel is a violinist from El Paso, Texas pursuing an undergraduate degree in Music Performance and Music Education at New Mexico State University. He has studied with the renowned violinist and pedagogue Daniel Vega-Albela throughout his studies at NMSU and now studies with the current adjunct violin professor Amalia Zeitlin. Currently, he is an active musician in the region performing with groups such as the NMSU Philharmonic, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Camerata del Sol, the Paso del Norte Chamber Orchestra, the El Paso Theater Ballet Orchestra, and even as an oboist in the NMSU Wind Symphony. Aside from performance work, he is also an active educator in the area by getting involved with the public schools to provide small group and individual instruction for orchestra students.

Meet Leah Welsh, one of the soloist for our concert this Sunday, February 25 at the Atkinson Hall, 3 PM.

Leah Welsh is a skilled and aspiring violist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from New Mexico State University under the guidance of Jorge Martinez-Rios. During her time at NMSU, Leah has had the privilege of performing with prestigious ensembles and programs such as the NMSU Philharmonic Orchestra and the UTEP Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her academic pursuits, Leah actively collaborates with various ballet companies and orchestral programs outside of school. Leah's ultimate goal is to establish a successful career in music performance and make meaningful contributions to professional orchestras worldwide.
