October is proclaimed Las Cruces Public Art month by the City Art Board and Quality of Life/Public Art!

During Public Art Month, the CAB creates awareness of the link between artistic expression and quality of life that highlights our city’s culture and creative community. Here are some upcoming events to showcase public art.

The Earth and Cosmos Mosaic located in Downtown Las Cruces was damaged by a water leak in December 2020. I put the final touches on the restoration over the weekend. Here is the full video on YouTube that the City of Las Cruces made to document the process.

It’s a long time in coming. I’m on the final phase of installing the mosaic. The restoration involved lots of hours of mapping the tiles, cutting the tiles off the slab, cutting the mortar off the back and then grinding the residual mortar and then glueing them on to the mesh. It’s been four years since the water main broke and cause the unfortunate damage.

After literally years of creating a meticulous process for repairing and restoring the downtown mosaic titled "Earth and Cosmos", artist AgaveArts- Glenn Schwaiger (pictured here with wife LeeAnn) is installing the restored piece, one section at a time. Looking good, Glenn! 👏🏼🤩

Thanks again to everyone that came out for our studio tour. It was fun to meet new friends and catch up with old ones alike.

Everyone that signed our email list on February 23 was entered in to a random number generator and we drew two numbers for an original artwork by either Jim Moore and Ava Rockafield. Congratulations to Andrea Andress who won an original artwork by Ava Rockafield.

Thanks to everyone that came out for our studio tour. It was fun to meet new friends and catch up with old ones alike.
