Laird Arlen “The Giggling Fiddler” MacNaughton
The King’s Fiddler
Gather ye close, good folk, and prithee still thy chatter (or at least soften it to a polite titter), for here is told the merry tale of Laird Arlen MacNaughton—known far and wide as The Giggling Fiddler.
For fourteen years hath he served as the King’s own fiddler, and in all that time hath he ne’er met a tune he knew not. Aye, it is said (and loudly by himself) that he knoweth every song, melody, and merry jig ever writ—or that shall e’er be writ in ages yet to come. Should a tune be missing, fear not—he shall invent it ere supper.
Oft may he be found wandering the lanes, bow in hand and laughter in throat, striking up such lively strains that even the most solemn soul might betray a snort, a chuckle, or—heaven forfend—a full-bellied guffaw.
Most curious of all, this same Laird doth claim to have invented a sport of his own devising—one so grand and confounding that, in centuries hence, it shall give rise to all modern sports. What be the rules, thou askest? Alas, they change as oft as he giggles… which is to say, constantly.
Mark him well: where Arlen plays, mirth aboundeth, toes tap unbidden, and dignity is oft misplaced entirely.
