These videos serve one purpose, and that is to expose my "Poets Live!" poetry group, friends, to the greatest poets in the world. I DO NOT, NOR DO I HAVE ANY INTENTION OF MONETIZING THE VIDEOS on this site.
The reason.
I was able to attend classes with the great Thomas Lux. At the end of the sessions, he asked us to go back to our cities and towns, and do something to keep the art we all love, alive. A few months after coming home, I started a group, hoping to attract others who might like poetry as much as I. Well, there are a lot of us out there. We have met once a month since 2006.
The purpose.
My idea was to do something different than a typical open mic venue, or critique group. From this, came the decision to create a mini-biography and (audio at first) and video presentation of well-known poets, that I would share with the group. A solid, small cross section of a poet's work. This idea has been a part of "Poets Live!" meetings since the inception.
My goal.
To help great poets get their work to a wider audience, in the hope that they can sell their collections to people who may have never heard them. I know that many people have purchased many books after the biographies are read, and the videos are shown. It is a tedious process, finding, trimming long readings, cleaning up old clips, and adjusting audio, then editing it all into a short, but always anticipated video.
I do not get paid to make these videos, not all of us, especially artists, are driven by money. I do them as a labor of love. Many hours are dedicated to the creation process of each one, but my only concern is to fulfill the request of my teacher, and give back.
