A little sneak peek into class with our Level 3 dancers 🩰✨ Sorry for the squeaky barres hitting each other😜
At first glance, this battement dégagé combination looks pretty simple. Just dégagés facing the barre, right?
Not quite. 😉
To keep both their bodies and brains engaged, we’ve added sautés in a pattern of 4, 3, 2, and 1. Suddenly, dancers have to think about timing, coordination, and changing movement quality all at the same time.
What makes this combination so valuable is that it asks the dancers to use the foot and leg in two very different ways. In the dégagé, they are pushing through the floor and sending energy low and outward. In the sauté, that same foot has to push down into the floor to propel the body upward.
The weight placement in the foot is different. The energy is different. The intention is different.
This is one of my favorite examples of how ballet training works. What looks simple from the outside is often filled with layers of technique, coordination, and problem-solving underneath.
Sometimes the most effective exercises are the ones that don’t look complicated at all. 💛
