Gulf Coast Dance Theater is a Pinellas County Florida ballet company that provides training and performance opportunities for young dancers and adults.

Gulf Coast Dance Theater was founded by the current director Anne Chicra in 2011. The company is made up of young dancers who aspire to train in the art of movement and ballet. In 2014, Gulf Coast Dance Theater gained it's non-profit status as a 501(c)3. The company is growing under the direction of Miss Anne Chicra along with choreographers Nicole Stuart and Amy DiBongrazio. Currently Gulf Coast Dance Theater is appearing in Cinderella at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Sugar Plum Fairy! 🩰✨

Our Sugar Plum Fairy has a little bit of a different story than in the traditional Nutcracker. In Act I as Clara is exploring New York City, she is first introduced to her in Central Park as she is pushing her candy cart. At the end of Act I when Clara is going into different stores on 5th Avenue, she ends up in the candy maker's store.

In the candy store as powdered sugar is flying through the air, Clara is introduced to many different sweets. She is then led through the land of sweets by the Sugar Plum Fairy in Act II.

This will be our 5th year doing this show and each year the Artistic Director makes changes to make the show better. This was one of the changes made last year to give Sugar Plum a character that ties seamlessly into the show.

Clara's New York City Christmas! A holiday show presented by Gulf Coast Ballet Theater that combines the nostalgic parts of Nutcracker with a timeless story about a young girl exploring New York City.

From the opening Rockette number to central park and then 5th Ave, Clara winds up in a candy store where she is whisked away by powdered sugar into the land of sweets.

This is the perfect show to get in the holiday spirit! It's magical and you will leave feeling ready for all the Christmas activities.

Join us at the Largo High School Auditorium on Saturday December 12th at 2pm or 7pm for the full length show. If you have a younger kiddo, we have an 11am child and sensory friendly 45-minute performance.

Last Friday, we had the joy of bringing a little bit of Cinderella magic to some of our smallest ballet fans at the Palm Harbor Library! 🩰✨

In the ballet version of Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother doesn’t create all the magic alone. She calls upon the four Season Fairies to help prepare Cinderella for the ball. We brought four of our GCBT dancers to the library to share these beautiful variations and introduce our young audience to this special part of the ballet.

Then it was their turn! We invited everyone to get up, move with us, and experience a little ballet for themselves. And of course, we couldn’t end our visit without a photo opportunity with the ballerinas!

We love opportunities like this to bring ballet out of the theater and into our community, giving children a chance to experience the dancers, the stories, and the magic of ballet up close. 💕

Yesterday I had the pleasure of sitting down with a friend who is an attorney and an entrepreneur to see what her takes were on my ballet company ideas. It’s really special and very powerful when you can brainstorm with like minded individuals who think outside of the box too. To her my ideas don’t sound crazy, and instead, it’s not can you do it, but when are you doing it! I left her house with the gears turning and really pumped for the future✨💙

I’m so excited and inspired from today’s exploration into Gulf Coast Ballet Theater🥰 I had the morning to myself so I finally composed my thoughts, observations and ideas into one space and from there I created a 21 page document titled Founders Vision.

This year I want to bring you into that journey as I start to explore what kind of professional ballet company I want to build. If you have been following us, we’ve had a wonderful nonprofit Ballet company for quite some time, but it has been more on the pre-professional level with professional level production, but we haven’t had our own professional dancers and this year that changes.

So stick around to watch it unfold this year!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of being asked demonstrate some Balanchine variations at the Leepa Rattner museum for their book club who just finished reading a book about the brilliant choreographer, George Balanchine.

Not only was this experience great for our dancers to learn a fun variation and perform in our community, but we got to share with this lovely group of people about our mission, our vision for this company, and answer some questions about our company specifically and about the ballet world as a whole.

Our Artistic Director, Anne Carollo had an hour long conversation with the members of this book club who all care deeply about the arts in our community. They were eager to learn with lots of questions, and they were so appreciative of our dancers for volunteering their time so they could conclude this book in a really special way.

These experiences are why we do what we do. Everytime we get in front of an audience, we learn more about the needs and wants of the people in our community who are invested in the arts, and we get a better idea of what we need to do to keep moving our company forward! 🩰💙

Company Banquet 2026 🩰💙

This past Saturday we had our annual banquet to celebrate this season! This year's celebration was both special and bittersweet. Four of our soloists in the studio company who have grown up dancing with us, will be moving on to exciting new chapters next year.

We have three graduating seniors this year and one dancer who will be starting her professional ballet career with Ballet 5:8 next season. While next year might look a little different at Gulf Coast Ballet Theater, we are so proud of these dancers and can't wait to see where their journey takes them.

There was so much to celebrate this season! Our company really took off with more ticket sales for our production of Clara's New York City Christmas than we've ever had before, and more recently, we doubled our ticket sales for Cinderella from last year!

We also had some amazing opportunities this season. We were able to bring art into the community through outreach performances at public libraries, assisted living facilities, and at Ronald McDonald house. And, just last month before our production of Cinderella, Fox 13 News came to record rehearsals and do interviews for a segment on their channel!

We want to extend a special thank you to all the parents, volunteers, and donors who make it possible for us to do this. We truly couldn't do it without the support of our families and community, so thank you!!

This season was one that we are extremely proud of, and we can't wait to see what the 2026-2027 season has in store for us! ✨

Community outreach!

Here are some of our favorite moments from our most recent community outreach performance at the Palm Harbor Library. We brought a couple characters from Cinderella, including Fairy Godmother and the Fall Fairy.

We had so much fun performing, doing crafts, and spending time with these cuties. We are so grateful that we get these opportunities to share our love for ballet in the community and expose the arts to the next generations! 🩰

That's a wrap!! ✨

This past Saturday, we closed out our production of Cinderella and officially wrapped up our 2025–2026 season. After three incredible shows, we couldn't be more proud of our dancers and all their hard work this season preparing for the stage. 🩰

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our dancers. Your encouragement and enthusiasm means so much to our them, and our entire company.

We are especially excited to share that we doubled our ticket sales from last year. Watching our audience grow and seeing the continued excitement around our performances has been so rewarding. We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community and can't wait to keep building.
