This is a re-creation of a game I played as a kid with my brother and grandpa. My grandpa created the original version. I overlayed copper on wood and used enamel and paint to alter the surface of the copper.

With this piece, I begin to comment on the impact that humans have on the environment, specifically through deforestation. Plants give us oxygen to breath, so if we continue to destroy our environments we will have to obtain our oxygen through methods like this: plants in small jars that are attached directly to a breathing apparatus.

This sculpture continues my body of work creating role reversals between humans and nature within different scenarios. This is a life -size, cast iron head with realistic facial features and expressions of pain and agony, meant to create a sense of fear from the viewer as they see a giant hook with fishing line and weights ripping through the cheek of a person.

Solace produces an environment of muted color and light with soft appearing materials bringing a wave of calmness and comfort over the viewers, much like the sensations received from laying beneath the clouds as they undulate across the sky. Several elements compose the comforting feeling: suspended fabric emulates billowing oscillations of clouds, sculpted styrofoam mimics shapes which could be expressed within cloud formations, breeze-like resonance disrupts the silence, and a subtle, soothing scent engrosses the space.
This installation is intended for the viewer to interact with the space, whether laying on a bean bag or sitting on the bench-like forms. By interacting with the installation, each viewer can feel solace from being embraced by the subtle scent and sound as they gaze at the forms and interpret the space.
