The closure of our facility is not due to a lack of programming success. For over 30 years, Casa continues to provide highly experienced, deeply educated leadership rooted in the communities we serve. Our programs demonstrate sustained classroom success and a level of expertise not found anywhere else, during a time when demand for culturally grounded education continues to grow.

The closure of our physical space is not a reflection of diminished impact or leadership capacity. Rather, it reflects a rapidly shifting funding landscape in which sponsors and grantmakers we relied upon that hold corporate or federal ties are now operating under executive orders and compliance pressures that scrutinize whether cultural support may be perceived as “DEI-related.”

Many have pointed to existing arts venues as alternatives. What is often misunderstood is that Casa de Rosado was created precisely because those spaces do not offer Hispanic-led governance or programming shaped by our community’s needs. Casa was a safe, community-directed environment where cultural work was not scheduled into leftover time or framed through external priorities. While other institutions may offer space, they do not offer the autonomy, trust, or leadership representation that made Casa essential.

Casa continues to provide year-round, community-directed arts programming where our leadership and expertise are trusted without the need for permission or translation. The loss of our space marks not only the closure of a building, but the loss of a rare, self-determined cultural institution in Lansing.

Our work does not end; we are rooted in ancestral knowledge and sustained by a commitment transcending history. Nuestro trabajo no termina; estamos arraigados en el conocimiento ancestral y sostenidos por un compromiso que trasciende la historia.

A Message to Our Community
After deep reflection and with heavy hearts, Casa will be closing our physical facility. This decision was not made out of desire, but out of necessity. Rising expenses related to insurance and taxes, combined with declining grants and sponsorships—despite the growth of our programs—have made it impossible for us to sustain the space.

While our building is closing, our mission is not. Casa will continue its work in classrooms and throughout the community. We remain committed to collaborating with our community partners to host workshops and continue cherished traditions such as Hispanic Heritage Month and Lansing’s Día de Mu***os.

We are profoundly grateful for the memories we created together. From celebrating the work of local artists, to hosting meaningful conversations about issues impacting our community, to sharing music, art, food, and dancing in our courtyard and galería—these moments were powerful because of you. Your presence, energy, and love for our culture made Casa what it was, and we thank you wholeheartedly.

As we navigate this transition—and as we face a hostile administration poised against the well being of our people—we ask our community to remain strong, united, and hopeful. Casa’s spirit lives on through each of you, and our work continues.
