If you’re thinking of the Lost Province region’s music royalty, Martha Spencer may just be the Queen, having toured worldwide while staying rooted in the mountain and country sound she grew up playing with her family band in Whitetop, Virginia.
She’ll take the stage Saturday August 1st with the Wonderland Band—Jamie Collins (bass/vocals), Lucas Pasley (fiddle/banjo/vocals), and Jake Dwyer (percussion/washboard/dance)— a lot of talent for one band.
A relative of Ola Belle Reed and praised by Will Oldham as “a marvel,” Martha brings both heritage and fresh energy to the stage.
Be sure to pack your dancing shoes, you’ll be needing them!

Fly Around is excited to bring P.G Six to Lansing August 1. Pat’s long career began with the influential Tower Recordings group in the 1990’s, and he’s continued on as a solo artist, collaborator and multi instrumentalist with acts like Garcia Peoples, Wednesday Knudsen, Wet Tuna and many more. As P.G. Six Pat explores folk influences from the British Isles with his own particular take influenced by drone, keys and strings. Shared here is a solo harp performance and an in depth look at some of the harps he performs with.

Our headline artist this year has been called “one of the great magpies of American song, collecting forgotten, tarnished gems with a folklorist’s zeal…” Reared in Georgia and now settled in North Carolina, Jake Xerxes Fussell has established himself as a devoted listener and contemplative interpreter of a vast array of so-called folk songs, lovingly sourced from a personal store of favorites. He has released five studio albums to-date, beginning with his self-titled debut album, released by Paradise of Bachelors in 2015.
Fly Around welcomes Jake to perform at the old Lansing School, a WPA-era stone building currently being brought back to life by Lost Province Cultural Arts as a community arts space. With our regions deep history of old time and folk music, Jake’s music is the embodiment of our festival’s focus, creating new approaches to connect with culture’s past.

They call Ashe county the coolest corner of NC, and with a average summer high of 79 degrees we mean it. Lansing sits at 2654’ elevation, with Big Horse Creek running thru the town park on it’s way to the nearby North Fork of the New River. Our little town boasts some of the best swimming holes and trout fishing in the state. Fly Around offers a summer getaway deep in the mountains where you can still find fun boutiques, tasty brunch and espresso, and a little slower pace.
This year we’re excited to also offer camping at Lansing’s Mountaineer campground just north of town, and CJ’s Market has reopened offering a full grocery store in town. Learn more about the Lansing area on our website, check the flyaroundfest.com for details on lodging, camping, shopping and more, then grab your tickets and join us this summer!

A new name for a familiar place, Fly Around kicks off the festival weekend with a show , the heartbeat of the town of Lansing. Formerly known as Old Orchard Creek General Store, Shelby and her crew keep the town caffeinated and connected. The cafe bounced back after taking significant damage during Helene’s flooding, including adding a new brunch and food menu last fall in addition to their already excellent drinks, tea, beer and wine.
Our show Friday night at Lansing Cafe is in celebration of this well loved community space, and the role it plays in keeping our town so close. As a bonus, we’re moving the stage outside this year, to accommodate more folks. Doors will open at 6 pm, with the music kicking off at 7 with an all female led lineup of , and !
