25 years ago today, amidst ineffable tragedy, the better angels of our nature emerged from the tiny town of Gander, Newfoundland. Their International Airport welcomed close to 40 planes diverted from US air space during the terrorist attacks on Sept 11th. Inviting the almost 7,000 "plane people" into their homes, schools, and churches essentially doubled the town's population within 24 hours. Come From Away was inspired by this shining example of international compassion and generosity taking its story from real people and their real experiences.
