Alice By Heart - September 18th-27th, 2026

From the award-winning creators of Spring Awakening, this touching musical retelling of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland gives the classic tale a new twist set against the backdrop of WWII London.

I’m Not Rappaport - November 13th-22nd, 2026

Funny and heartwarming, I’m Not Rappaport tells the story of a lifelong radical and world-class kibitzer, retiree Nat Moyer, as he spends his afternoons spinning outrageous yarns that both intrigue and infuriate fellow octogenarian Midge Carter, the half-blind building superintendent with whom Nat shares his Central Park bench.

Bright Star - March 5th-14th, 2027

Featuring a bluegrass-tinged score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Bright Star is a musical set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and travels between 1945 and 1923. Billy Cane, a young soldier just home from World War II, meets Alice Murphy, the brilliant editor of a southern literary journal. Together they discover a powerful secret that alters their lives.

Crimes of the Heart - May 14th-23rd, 2027

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows three sisters in Mississippi, who reunite after…a recent family quarrel. Under the scorching heat of the Mississippi sun, past resentments bubble to the surface and each sister must come to terms with the consequences of her own “crimes of the heart.”

This August 1st, join us in the lush courtyard at The Twentieth Century Club for drinks, snacks, socializing, and a SHAKESPEARE SLAM!!! Bring your best monologue, scene (w/partner), or sonnet, and wow our judges for a chance to win $$$cash$$$. A sliding scale donation gains you admittance as a competitor. Spectators attend for free.

Sign-ups, rules, logistics, judges’ identities, and more will be rolled out at the end of June. See you soon!

God of Carnage opens tonight!

Meet the cast 🎭

⭐️ Daria Husseinzadeh (Annette) is thrilled to be making
her Spotlight Theatre debut as Annette in God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza as part of this ensemble cast under the direction of Lorraine Barrett. Favorite past productions include Children of a Lesser God (Sarah), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Germaine), and Arcadia (Thomasina). Originally from Ohio, she is hoping to be integrated as a native Philadelphian at some point and has a passion for fostering animals (which could include hamsters). She is grateful to her talented castmates and all involved in production of this show. Shout-out to PHW teachers and colleagues. She especially thanks her family and friends for their unending support and encouragement.

⭐️ Paolo Barolat-Romana (Alan) is excited to perform in
his first show at Spotlight Theater. He started taking acting classes at the Walnut Theater in his late 20s where he fell in love with the art form. His theater resume includes: Joe Stoddard in Our Town and Letter Writer #1 in Tiny Beautiful Things at Old Academy Players, the Aviator in The Little Prince at Swarthmore Players Club, and Biff in Death of a Salesman at Haddonfield Plays and Players.

Meet the Cast 🎭

⭐️ Anthony Marsala (Michael) - Anthony was last seen at Spotlight as political consultant Arther Vance in The Outsider. Other recent shows include You Can’t Take it With You and The Play That Goes Wrong at Forge Theatre, and Rehearsal for Murder at the Barn Playhouse. Anthony is happily married and has loved being a father for over 20 years and he hopes his wife and son enjoy his performance but don’t hold it against him.

⭐️ Jennifer Trimble (Veronica) is thrilled to be back on the stage with this amazing cast after focusing on being a mom for a few years. She received her BA in Theatre Performance from Penn State and her MFA in Theatre Performance from Northern Illinois University. Jennifer spent several years in NYC and worked for 2 seasons performing Ellis Island Stories at the Ellis Island National Monument and toured Ellis Island Stories at local schools. Jennifer also had the pleasure of performing in the New York premiere of Michael Weller’s Buying Time off-off Broadway with the Hypothetical Theatre Company. More recently, Jennifer has taught and directed at numerous theatre camps and workshops. She is very happy to be working with Lorraine again after being the AD on The Outsider at Spotlight in 2024. She is so thankful to Bill, Clara and Will for all the support and encouragement.

DG’s big push weekend is May 6-7th but please consider donating to Spotlight anytime between now and May 10.
