Songs like "Blueberry Hill,” “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Blue Moon,” along with a preview of the Commonweal Theatre Company's “Sanders Family Christmas” and a skit by the Lanesboro Innkeepers about the upcoming 2019 Lanesboro Christmas Inn Tour, will each be part of a colorful evening. Armed with acoustic guitars and sibling-like vocal harmonies, Ilika Ward's songwriting is one part modern folk, one part throwback to the sounds of the 1960's folk revival. Friday's show features special guest Al Batt, a writer, speaker, storyteller and humorist from Hartland, Minnesota. His popular humor and nature column has appeared in countless newspapers, including the Bluff Country Newspaper Group, for many years. Author of the book, "A Life Gone to the Birds," Batt is a columnist for "Bird Watcher’s Digest" and has also written for a number of other magazines and books. He received the Ed Franey Conservation Media Award from the Izaak Walton League and the Thomas Sadler Roberts Award from the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union for lifetime contributions to birding. Al speaks to anyone who will listen, including his two wonderful neighbors — both named Bruce — who live across the road from each other. Friday's musical guest Eric Carranza is a multi-instrumentalist and music teacher from the Twin Cities that is living & working in all month as an artist in residence at Lanesboro Arts. With a location-based focus and a mobile studio & rig of music making tools, Carranza is inviting community members of all backgrounds and musical abilities to create “Root River Vibrations,” a series of musical vignettes inspired by the people, landscape and energy of Lanesboro. Eric is performing a song on stage with community members during Friday's show and interested participants can join a rehearsal at St. Mane Theatre with Eric and other cast members on TONIGHT at 7 p.m. following a Welcome Potluck & Discussion with Eric Carranza at 5 p.m.
