Each participating school may send several teachers/educational professionals who will be teaching the dance program to the students to a weekend training taught by professional ballroom dance instructors. After completing the weekend training, the teachers return to their school to teach the program to the students in their chosen grades. In addition to the initial training with a professional in
structor, we have a follow-up review session in the Antelope Valley for our local schools, and for the schools who are in outlying areas, we conduct the review in your area. We also have a dynamic website that will assist each teacher in the process every step of the way with videos, music, and a weekly suggested curriculum. Beyond that, any help that is needed will be offered, and we will do our best to support you through this process. In our 5th grade program, the students learn and compete in three dances: foxtrot, salsa, and east coast swing. In our 6th grade program, the students learn and compete in five dances: foxtrot, tango, merengue, east coast swing, and rumba
In our 7/8 grade program, the students also learn and compete in five dances: waltz, quickstep, jive, salsa and cha cha. The benefits of this program are immense. Students not only learn new dance abilities which include partnering and competition skills; they also learn important social and lifetime skills such as team collaboration, socialization skills, improved self-esteem and self-confidence, and increased cognitive skills. An additional benefit of the Youth Ballroom Dance Program is that students also learn about the importance of daily exercise which helps to build and strengthen bones and muscles and increases their overall fitness level. The Youth Ballroom dance program culminates at the High Desert Dance Classic dance event held annually in March where the students are given an opportunity to participate and demonstrate their new steps and talent for an experience they will not soon forget!
