So proud of my friends Scott and Annie for making a real impact in this community and saving lives through the power of words and their Writeface organization. Spend Veteran's Day downtown at The Ware and Winter Centers - Millersville University to hear what they've created and support them during the Extraordinary Give 2018

For U.S. Marine Corps veteran Monte Burley, returning to civilian life was not easy.

Call for Submissions: Writeface with Scott Hower and Annie Ginder

Writeface, a Lancaster based non-profit that provides guided writing workshops for veterans and their family members invites you to submit an original poem, essay, story or song, that you would perform as part of a Spoken Word event at the Ware Center from 2 to 4 pm on Veterans Day, November 11, 2018.

The program theme is:
Veterans, Values and Voices:
Words in Search of Our Missing
Peace
We are looking for pieces that explore and/or illuminate the veteran’s experience as lived by veterans, or as understood by the veterans’ family members, loved ones, friends, co-workers, and society.

Submissions must be received by October 12, 2018. Send to Annie Ginder at [email protected]. We will notify those included in the performance by October 16, 2018.

Submission Guidelines
1. Submissions must be original but may include veteran related material
(ex: letters, journal entries or other types of material written by veterans)
2. Submissions should be sent by email as an attached document
3. Each piece submitted must include:
§ a title
§ author’s name (first and last)
§ author’ email address
§ author’s phone number

Submissions will be selected based on which pieces work, in relationship to each other and can be organized into a cohesive whole—a highly subjective and unscientific process.

Authors submitting works are asked to commit to being available for the November 11th afternoon performance and for the ensemble dress rehearsal on November 7th from 6 to 9 pm. Each author/performer will also be required to meet with the directors during the week of October 22nd through the 26th. This meet will be to hear the work read out loud and to determine timing.

Veterans interested in submitting works for consideration but who do not want to read the work on stage may read the piece backstage (with a microphone) or have one of the show’s directors select someone to read your work.
