The mission of NEXT Gallery is to create a community of dynamic artists who are actively engaged in the greater arts community while being a resource of information and experience for each other. Our vision is to challenge artists to grow and thrive by creating an environment that fosters curiosity, experimentation and challenging norms. As an artist run gallery, we encourage new ideas, collaborations, interdisciplinary arts and non-traditional media while also retaining a respect for the traditions of art. VIRGINIA T. COLEMAN is a Denver-based multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, painting,
and photography. Her sculptural practice explores materials, form, balance, and the
transformation of industrial materials.
Coleman has been a member of Next Gallery for more than a decade, exhibiting an evolving
body of work ranging from two-dimensional pieces to increasingly large-scale sculptures. Her
recent work has expanded beyond the gallery into public and outdoor settings, including
installations at Hudson Gardens and Lafayette’s Art on the Street Program.

Behind the painted smile is a whole spectrum of emotion.
Through clowns, color, and theatrical imagery, I explore identity, family, grief, heritage, relationships, and the strange beauty of being human.

Sometimes we laugh. Sometimes we grieve. Sometimes we do both.

There’s always more beneath the greasepaint.
