Custom Kitchen Aquarium Built Into Backsplash – Brooklyn, NY

One of the more unique freshwater aquarium projects we've completed.

This custom fish tank was incorporated into the construction of a new Brooklyn home between the kitchen and family room. The homeowners wanted to maintain visibility between the spaces so they could keep an eye on their young children while spending time in the kitchen.

The result is a built-in freshwater aquarium that adds color, movement, and life to one of the most used areas of the home while still preserving views between the rooms.

All filtration and maintenance access was designed from the family room side, allowing the kitchen side to remain clean and fully integrated into the finished backsplash.

This saltwater aquarium is full of movement - fish swimming through the corals, corals gently swaying, everything just doing its thing. It’s one of those systems you can watch for a few minutes and completely lose track of time.

What I love most is where it’s located. Right in a busy kitchen, it turns into this unexpected calm spot. After a long day, it’s an awesome place to stop for a minute, zone out, and just reconnect with nature.

Reef tanks like this take real care and patience, but when they come together like this, the payoff is worth it.
