Our goal is to exhibit challenging, cutting-edge art representing the best of local artists. Pirate is one of the city’s oldest member run art cooperatives. We opened our doors on January 1, 1980, and have been delivering a unique brand of skull-and-crossbones flair to the local scene ever since. The idea of Pirate began with a conversation between a group of friends and like-minded people who had

recently graduated from Metropolitan State. There was much speculation about their place in the gallery world. At the time, there were few commercial galleries showing good contemporary art in Denver so they decided to start their own. This led to the creation of an art oasis where contemporary ideas could be shown. All these years later we are still showing some of the best artists in Denver metropolitan area.

We recently received some horrible news about one of our favorite and most devoted members, Charles Livingston. Charles suffered severe physical injuries and a traumatic brain injury in a bicycle collision with a truck on May 11 on Highway 74. After hospitalization, he will transition through an acute care facility, a rehabilitation center, and eventually receive home care at a family member’s home. To help with his bills, assist his family with day-to-day care, etc., we are having a fundraiser at Pirate on June 13th. Our members are generously donating artworks and services for purchase, with all proceeds going to his family to help with his needs.
