🌟 Kids on Broadway 🌟
Did you know some of Broadway’s most iconic musicals are led by young performers? 🎭✨
At Broadway Beginnings, we love reminding our students that there is no “too young” to begin storytelling, building confidence, and discovering a love for theatre.
Here’s a look at some beloved musicals that feature incredible roles for children and teens:
🌱 The Secret Garden
Features children around ages 10–13, with young Mary Lennox and Collin Craven. The musical highlights imagination, resilience, and emotional growth through the eyes of young characters.
🧹 Annie
One of the most famous child-led musicals of all time! Annie is typically played by a performer around ages 10–12, alongside a cast full of young orphans ranging from about 6–13 years old.
📚 Matilda
Centered around a brilliant young girl usually played by actors ages 9–13. The show also features a large ensemble of school-aged kids and celebrates courage, intelligence, and individuality.
🎸 School of Rock
Packed with opportunities for young performers ages 9–13! The kids in this show sing, act, dance, and even play live instruments on stage.
🎶 The Sound of Music
The von Trapp children range from about age 5 all the way through the teenage years, making this classic musical a wonderful example of storytelling across many ages.
🥣 Oliver!
Features a large ensemble of kids, often ages 8–14, with Oliver himself usually portrayed by a young actor around 10–13 years old.
