Calling all horse people! Specifically Equestrain Drill Teams or those ever interested in creating/riding in one!
Our drill team has always dreamed of competing- but never achieved this because all the competitions are very far away, expensive and intimidating to us small fries 😆 (California, Oregon and Montana are the nearest)
There is a team trying to put on their first competition for people like us in Grand Junction, Colorado which is only 5 hours away! It will be held September 23 and 24th. It is a big undertaking for them.
The problem is, they are having a hard time getting teams to commit and if they can't get 4 more teams to say for sure that they are in by August 1st, then the whole competition will be canceled. All teams are welcome!
We want to support people like this because it creates more opportunities for small town dreamers like us. We need more drill teams in Utah and surrounding areas! Thats why I created my team, because I couldn't find any to join as an adult.
If you have ever ridden in one, you'll know exactly why. It's so much fun and it teaches teamwork and horsemanship. If you've ever seen one perform before a rodeo or event, then you'll also understand the appeal of this equestrian sport. It's dancing on horses! It's an adrenaline rush. It's directing an unpredictable 1,000 lb animal with one hand, holding a flag in another going at fast speeds and being where you need to be exactly when you need to be there, while trusting your teammates to do the same and having their backs if they don't.
So what we're asking is:
A. If you have a drill team, any drill team of at least 4 people, think about signing up! It's $300 to sign a team up. If you have even 6 people that would be only $50 per person plus travel expenses. Reach out to San Juan Sparkles and Spurs or PM me and I'll give you their email and info so you can ask any questions and get more details.
B. If you've ever thought of creating a drill team, here's your chance and motivation! Need more members? 4H kids or barrel racing buddies are wonderful riders and quick learners. No experience? I'd be happy to share ideas or tips to get your team started. I would absolutely love to see more teams around here available to our valley.
Or
C. If you know of a drill team, share this or reach out to them! We really hope they can get some teams to commit because it will be a lot of fun and such a great learning experience. Plus there's nothing like showing off your drill you've worked so hard at to a live audience!
