I currently have a full studio of public school string students who would greatly benefit from access to their own instruments. Since October, many students have been sharing instruments between lessons and rehearsals. Despite that challenge, they’ve remained dedicated, attending 2–3 small group lessons per month plus some attend weekly afterschool ensemble rehearsals.

Their performance is June 10, and the goal is for every student to perform on their own violin or cello. Any donated instruments, used student models, could make a huge difference for these young musicians.

Thank you for supporting music education and these hardworking kids 💙💛

The 28th (30 minus two COVID years) Annual SLYAA "Baroque and Beyond Concert" is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake, featuring accomplished musicians to support local youth arts. This performance occurs during the 2026 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival (Feb 6–15).

Event Details:
Date: Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM.
Location: First United Methodist Church, 63 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY.
Admission: Suggested donation of $12.
Purpose: The concert raises funds for the Saranac Lake Young Arts Association to support youth performance arts, workshops, and scholarships.
The first Baroque Concert was in 1995 as a stage for all community musicians, young and old
It has evolved as a showcase of all the awesome musicians, students, amateurs and the many professionals in the community.
The concert is a staple of the annual Winter Carnival, which in 2026 features a "CARTOONIVAL" theme, an ice palace, and various performances.

This year’s highlights are (amongst many surprise submissions):

- Muriel Kerr, cellist, performing “Swan” by Camille St.Saëns

- Sarah Douglas, baroque violinist, presenting “Winter” by Vivaldi on her baroque violin. Both those pieces will be accompanied by members of the CSOA.

- John Curtis, piano: Beethoven

- Judy Curtis, soprano: Handel aria accompanied by John Blevins on trumpet, Elaine Dewar on violin, Muriel Kerr on cello and John Curtis on harpsichord.

- Thomas Stork, bass and Timothy Mount, piano: Schubert Lieder

- Alex Malin, recorder, John Curtis, harpsichord: Telemann Sonata F minor

- Elizabeth Izzo, violin and Joey Izzo, piano are playing Bach

The Community String Orchestra of the Adirondacks, a string orchestra for all ages and playing levels, led by professional musicians, is visiting classical and romantic composers from Vienna to Paris to Moscow in their fall concerts on November 20th and 21st, 2025. Artistic Director is Alex Malin, guest conductor is Dr. John Curtis.
The concert is free, donations are appreciated.

From a Mozart Minuet for all, including our very beginners, we travel to the Mozart Bassoon Concerto featuring artistic director, composer and arranger, Alex Malin on solo bassoon, with the orchestra conducted by Dr. John Curtis. This concerto will include our friends on Trumpets and French Horns.
Cellist Muriel Kerr will be featured in “Swan” from Carnival of the Animals by Saint Saëns. This beautiful Cello Solo will be accompanied by string orchestra and piano.
Pianist/violinist Katie Smith and violinists Judy Ann Curtis and Rhiannon Adsit will present three movements from Shostakovich’s Trios for two Violins and Piano. These tunes are based on Russian folk tunes.
The string orchestra will present “Intermezzo in Modo Classico” by Mussorgsky. This composition for piano was arranged for string orchestra by Alex Malin.
