Hello Everyone!
Hope you had a wonderful summer. It always goes by so fast! And now it’s time for school and dancing!
Dancing has always been a passion and I have always loved children: mine and yours! One of the reasons that I opened a dance studio in 2002, was to fill a need in the community, a place where I wanted my own children to dance and then later as an opportunity for them to work. With both of my daughters opting for a life outside of dance: Charlotte is busy preparing for medical school, and Abigail is pursuing a career in modeling; neither can be as involved with dance.
I have witnessed many changes in the dance world. Some for the better, many not. The popularity of the show Dance Moms saddens me. I enjoy watching the extraordinary dance talent, but the show condones unacceptable behavior from teachers, dancers, parents, and competing studios. I have always been a huge advocate of dancers being one big family. Unfortunately many others do not. I so understand the little girl that wants to be the next “Maddie” but a smart parent realizes the cost: dancing too many hours every week, costumes that cost hundreds of dollars, lessons and competitions that cost thousands of dollars, and competitions that don’t value creativity or technique.
Over the years, I have spent countless hours dealing with landlords, facility problems, legal issues, demanding dance moms, staff, and frankly not doing what I love: Dancing! I have always believed that a person should put their priorities in perspective.
1. God 2.Family 3.Education 4.Community 5. Dance/Dports/Extracurriculars
For that reason, I have decided not to re-open a studio this year. Instead, I have opted to offer STARZ dance, gymnastics, and fitness classes at Lake Orion Community Education and dance at Clarkston Community Education. These programs offer a 7 week session format followed by a recital. The recital will be informal, the cost of a seat is canned good. The classes cost $129 for the entire session and that includes a costume. (Only $99 for pre-schoolers). Dance will be offered on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in Clarkston, and on Tuesday and Thursday in Lake Orion. We have a wide variety of gymnastics and fitness classes available at Lake Orion. The emphasis will be on dance and our community.
I want to be the change that I wish to see in the world. I hope you join me and keep reaching for the STARZ.
My Love to You Always,
Miss Cindy
