Two months from now, Olustee Park becomes one of the strongest places on Earth. 💪
On Saturday, October 10, Strongman Champions League brings up to 14 professional athletes from around the world to Lake City, FL for a full day of international competition, and admission is completely FREE for all ages.

The moment nobody will stop talking about? Athletes attempting to pull a Lake City Fire Department tower ladder truck weighing approximately 74,000 pounds. 🚒
Make it a family day with food, vendors, entertainment, and special guest appearances. The competition is also set to be featured in SCL's international programming, so bring your loudest cheers.

The best parts of Columbia County don't always make the list.

There's nothing wrong with the popular spots, they're popular for a reason. But ask a local where they actually spend their weekend, and you'll hear different names.

Harter Pier at Lake Montgomery, where the fishing is good and the crowds are small. The paved trail around Alligator Lake, five minutes from downtown and easy to forget it's even there. O'Leno State Park and River Rise Preserve, where the Santa Fe River vanishes underground and reappears three miles later. Blue Goose Studio, tucked into historic downtown with antiques and local art around every corner, and Gateway Art Gallery, also downtown, filled with original work by artists who live here.

None of these take much extra effort. They just take knowing to look.

Where "Old Florida" meets your next getaway. 🏕️

Moonshine Acres RV Park at Ichetucknee Springs sits on 14 acres near Fort White, just a couple miles from the south entrance of Ichetucknee Springs State Park. The property carries the story of a local moonshiner who once raised his family on this land, and that history shows up everywhere, from the log cabin clubhouse to the general store filled with antiques and memorabilia.

Settle in around one of three in-ground fire pits, unwind on the wraparound porch, or let the kids loose at the on-site playground and dog park. When you're ready to explore, the Ichetucknee Springs State Park to O'Leno State Park and River Rise Preserve runs right alongside the property, open to bikes, walkers, and even golf carts for an easy ride to the spring.

There's a bridge in Columbia County that's older than almost everything around it, and it's still exactly where it's always been.

Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the suspension bridge at O'Leno State Park and River Rise Preserve carries visitors across the Santa Fe River the same way it has for nearly a century. O'Leno was one of Florida's first state parks, and walking this bridge, it's easy to see why the place hasn't changed much since. Shaded, quiet, and worth slowing down for.

Planning a last-minute trip to Ichetucknee Springs State Park? Here's everything your family needs to know before you go.

Before you leave the house, pack water shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, a change of clothes, and a mesh bag to tie your gear to your tube. Bring reusable water bottles too, since single-use containers aren't allowed on the river.

Once you arrive, rentals are available on site if you didn't bring your own gear. The water holds at a steady 72 degrees year round, which feels incredible on a hot August afternoon. For the best experience, get an early start. Weekdays offer an especially peaceful float with the kids and plenty of quiet river to enjoy.

If you're bringing little ones who aren't strong swimmers, a life vest is a must, and a rope or cord to link tubes together makes it easy to keep the whole group in sight. When you're off the water, bring a picnic or plan a nearby bite. There's something extra satisfying about a meal after a few hours in the springs.

If kayaking the Santa Fe River is on your Florida bucket list, Rum 138 in Fort White, FL is where the trip begins. This family-owned outfitter rents kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards with shuttle service included, plus a map marking every spring along the route.

Choose a relaxed 4-mile paddle from the US 27 bridge to Rum Island Park (great for families with kids) or take on the full 10-mile springs run for a day-long adventure.

Then make a Sunday of it. Rum 138's Sunday Funday brings live music from local and nationally touring acts to the outdoor stage, alongside a free-admission farmers market where local growers and artisans set up a true vendor village. Add the Springs Art Gallery featuring more than 30 local artists, and a paddle trip becomes a full day out. Market and music dates vary, so check Rum 138's social pages before you go.

Know before you go: launches run 9 am to 1 pm, trips wrap by 4:30 pm, and weekend reservations are recommended.
