Happy Birthday to Starport 75….. or as we locals like to call it Space Mountain. Opening on January 15, 1975, Space Mountain was the first roller coaster ever controlled fully by computer. It is the oldest operating coaster in Florida and was Disney’s second roller coaster in any Disney theme park. Did you know the Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain was the first of all the space mountains around the world to open?

Next time you visit Space Mountain, look for the active earth stations when you enter the queue and you will see a reference to all the space mountains around the world including this one Tomorrowland MK 1. Be sure to check out our video showing this cool homage.

🏰 On this day 53 years go, the Magic Kingdom opens to the public for the first time. Alongside the Polynesian and Contemporary resort, the Magic Kingdom marks the first Disney park outside California realizing Walt’s dream of an East coast Disneyland.

🌎 On this day 42 years ago, Epcot opens to the world as a showcase of progress, technology and world pavilions. Walt’s city of tomorrow realized in a way not as he imagined but as a world’s fair of new innovations and technology of the future.

Happy Birthday to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot 🎂

🧀 🍷 It’s the start of the 2024 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. This festival runs from August 29 until November 23, 2024. With this being the first Food & Wine Festival that World celebration is open for, we gained 2 new food booths, Festival Favorites and Macatizers plus new booths at the entrance of World Showcase near Imagination Pavilion.

This years festival is packed with returning favorites and new cuisine. We stopped over to Epcot tonite and sampled some returning favorites as well as some new items. This is the just beginning of many visits to try all the food items we can.

We were able to sample 4 items in our short time at Epcot today, we have rated them in on the pictures above.

Macatizers was a smash hit. I mean, who doesn’t love Mac ‘n Cheese 🧀! The Philly Cheesesteak was the best of all of them, imagine a cheesesteak sandwich with Mac and cheese on top instead of just cheese. Thank us later!

The Brioche aux Escargot was a returning favorite and they nailed it again with this. Slightly different than last year when it was a croissant, this year it is a brioche stuffed with escargot, garlic and parsley cream! It was 5 ⭐️.

The Tikka Masala was another returning favorite and just a solid as ever. A good taste with a little kick and some naan bread to dip!

Stay tuned for more food and wine tastings and ratings!

Let us know what your favorite food at this years Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is!

🎂🏰💫 Happy 69th Birthday to the place that started it all.

Saturdays were always daddy’s day with the 2 daughters as Walt said. One day he was on a bench in Griffith Park while eating peanuts and watching his girls ride the merry go round and thought to himself, there ought to be something built, a kind of family park where children and parents could have fun together.

With that, the idea for Disneyland is born. Disneyland would open July 17, 1955 in Anaheim, California making way for 5 more Disney Parks Destinations around the world in the decades to come.

To All Who Come to this Happy Place…..Welcome!

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Recap - Cast Preview 💦

Enjoy some pics of the new, yet familiar queue. ⛰️

1. Animatronics are really good, their motion and fluidity are life like, very close to the Shaman of Songs in Navi River Journey.⚜️

2. There is a great effect on the second drop in total darkness with lights and fog, be sure not to miss it. 💨

3. There’s beignet smell in the queue and on the ride so be sure to catch a whiff, you won’t regret it. 🧁

4. There are some emptier scenes where there are just a small building or bayou grass and screens where in Splash Mountain there were a lot of characters and or story enhancing parts, not a drawback but just something new.

Happy AP Preview Day 1, hope everyone who has a reservation/boarding group today gets to ride!

Overall experience, we give it a 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️ , some of the audio wasn’t quite synced up to the animatronics but it’s still in test phase. It’s a good replacement for splash mountain, one that will delight for years to come. Great to be back on this attraction again.

Did you get to ride today?

Reunited at last.

Richard Sherman 1928 - 2024

Disney Legend Richard Sherman of the Sherman Brothers has passed away. One of “The boys” as Walt called them, the Sherman Brothers were a quintessential part of the Walt Disney studios from 1960-1973 writing songs for Disney classics like Mary Poppins, the Jungle Book, the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Disney Parks attractions such as Its a Small World, Carousel of Progress and Walt Disneys Enchanted Tiki Room.

We remember Richard Sherman through the countless wonderful songs he and his brother Bob have created over the years and his legacy will continue to live on through the movies and Disney Parks forever!

We are sure Walt has already asked Richard to “play it” as he has waited all these years to hear it again.

What is your favorite Sherman Brothers song?

🎥 🍿 Happy 35th Birthday to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Opening May 1, 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios, it functioned as a working movie studio as well as a theme park. The park was initially conceptualized as an entertainment centered pavilion at EPCOT. As plans developed, this idea changed to become a separate theme park and Disney’s third gate.

Then Disney CEO Michael Eisner, former CEO of Paramount Pictures, felt that Disney needed another park but also knew of plans of Universal bringing their west coast movie park to the east coast with their eyes set on Orlando. Disney-MGM Studios opened with 5 attractions and is now the only Walt Disney World Park that does not have at least 1 of its opening day attractions still operating today.

With the Disney company being just around 50 years old at the time, the company did not possess any “old Hollywood” IP and history. Negotiations began with MGM, the largest in Hollywood, so Disney could possess a dark ride featuring classic scenes from old Hollywood. From then on the park began to change time and time again eventually becoming Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan 7, 2008. Now with a deep movie history and collection of IP, this park began to make a name for itself and lose its “half day park” mantra with additions such as Toy Story, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and Sunset Boulevard.

“We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was and always will be.” 🎥 🎞️

Happy Earth Day and 26th anniversary of the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Walt’s dream of live animals in his park came true on this day in 1998 when Animal Kingdom opened its gates to the world. Originally called Wild Animal Kingdom, the name was changed to Disney’s Animal Kingdom shortly after during development.

When Joe Rhode was given responsibility to come up with ideas for a 4th Disney Park in the 90s, he dreamt of a theme park that was “alive,” a dream that harkened back to Walt himself in his True Life Adventure series and the Jungle Cruise.

After 2 failed attempts to convince Disney executives Michael Eisner and Frank Wells that an animal park is Disney’s next park, he came into the room for a 3rd pitch but this time he was prepared not with charts, data and storyboards. He walked in with an 800lb Siberian Tiger and as it sat next to executives, he promptly asked, “Any Questions?”

From that point, Animal Kingdom was greenlit and Joe Rhode would move forward as the parks creative lead.

Have you ever seen the painting of the Thunder Mountain Range in the Walt Disney World Big Thunder Mountain queue?

This beautiful painting exists up in the rafters of the queue near the portrait of Barnabas T. Bullion. It showcases the Big Thunder Mountains past and present versions.

From left to right we see the original Thunder Mesa, the mining complex that would have housed the never built Western River Expedition at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. A Marc Davis design that gave way to what would become Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Next we see Magic Kingdoms version of Big Thunder Mountain the next spire reaching into the sky.

As we move to the right into the clouds we see Disneylands version, followed by Tokyo Disneyland’s version and finally Disneyland Paris’ version with the distinctive arch in the water.

All of these make up what’s called the Thunder Mountain Range. Be sure to keep your eye out for this painting next time you are in the queue.
