Just last night, Kat and I attended Brandi Carlile’s concert in Madison and she and I’m With Her paid tribute to Dolly, hoping she’d be back to performing soon. Heartbreaking!

This time the wildflowers took over. Still playing with those yellow fields and distant hills, but I couldn’t resist bringing in some pinks and purples too. 💜

I’m just here making little landscapes.

Apparently yellow fields, winding roads and wildflowers are having a moment in my studio. And I’m not mad about it.

I love little landscapes! There’s something about a winding road, distant hills and a little pop of wildflowers that I never get tired of painting. And I’ve been leaning into shades of yellow lately. Go figure! 💛

Unruly is right! This painting and I went many rounds, which you can see if you scroll through the details, but I loved the process of creating it.

It actually started a couple of years ago as a painting of palm trees. But it clearly wanted to be something else, so I started bringing the flowers forward. I don’t often use such a light background, but again, it’s what this one seemed to demand.

There are probably 25 layers hiding in this final piece. Bits and pieces of what came before still peek through, which is one of my favorite things about working this way.

Unruly Optimism currently hangs in my studio, where it’s bringing me lots of joy. I kind of hate to part with her, but nevertheless, I’ve added her to the website.

I’m continuing to explore my Road Home series, and I don’t think I’m done with these winding roads just yet.

This one is all about the late day light and those soft blues and greens, with a little apricot in the clouds. I can’t seem to stray from my favorite color palettes.

“Morning Benediction” This one is a little different than what I’ve been painting lately. I’ve been on a colorful abstract floral kick, but I was drawn to the simplicity of this composition and the challenge of capturing the light streaming through the window. It’s been a nice change of pace.

I don’t feel like I have to choose. I love painting my colorful, expressive florals, and I love creating quieter pieces like this too.

I had the best weekend in Louisville with my high school girlfriends! ❤️🐎

Inspired by the trip, I painted this jockey and thoroughbred. It makes me happy knowing it ended up with one of my dear friends who shared the weekend with me.

If you ever find yourself in Louisville, don’t skip the Churchill Downs tour. It was totally worth getting up at 5am!
