Laguna Art Museum is the museum of California art. It collects, cares for, and exhibits works of art that were created by California artists or represent the life and history of the state. Unlike any other museum in the state, it collects California art and only California art, and ranges across all periods and styles, from the nineteenth-century to present-day.

Co-curator Dr. Kelly Tucker explores the musical life of Frank Cuprien, a trained pianist and tenor whose deep connection to music shaped the light, rhythm and mood of his paintings. Cuprien was described as a “clairaudient artist,” a term suggesting heightened inner hearing, an ability to hear and shape music inwardly before it is played, with sensitivity to balance, rhythm and tone.

This is your final week to see Frank Cuprien: For the Love of the Sea 🌊

This special exhibition celebrates the enduring legacy of Frank Cuprien, a founding figure of Laguna Beach’s art community and one of California’s most devoted painters of the Pacific coast. Drawn from Laguna Art Museum’s permanent collection alongside key loans, the exhibition brings together luminous seascapes and coastal views that reveal Cuprien’s lifelong dialogue with the ocean.

de la Torre Brothers: The Tipping Point is on view now at Laguna Art Museum! Brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre give us insight into the many aspects of the maximalist installation. Check out the full video on our website!

By working within the forms of inherited traditions of display and status, artist brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre have carefully orchestrated a breathtaking transformation of our California gallery. Glass works are interwoven with selected objects, creating a densely layered environment accented by chandeliers, suspended forms and floor-level objects that create a sense of visual abundance while guiding visitors through the space as active participants rather than passive viewers. These elements transform the gallery into a singular, experiential environment that encourages you to reflect on society’s fascination with wealth, abundance, and consumption, and the ways we all participate in systems of excess.
