July monsoon moonsurfer .. it's been such a longtime between postings but today is a special day. This full moon is spectacular, the air is warm and balmy and a mild breeze coming up from the Ozean make it a moment to take in and enjoy to the fullest. I feel strong and happy and love this evening and am grateful for the countless gestures of love and support I have received during the last few months.

Almost finished with my pelican study... a friend inspired me to look at these birds a little more carefully and while I have always enjoyed watching these prehistoric looking creatures fly along our coast in their precise group formations I never spend much time considering their beauty as individuals. These birds are awesome and beautiful and their strengt comes becomes apparent when they start taking flight. Can't wait to do this painting.

Little progress on my drawing for "Taking Flight" the second piece for my new series of small oil paintings. As always I like to do a detailed drawing first but with this new line I am giving the drawings a lot more attention then I did in previous work . I like them to stand on their own and be more then just the work drawing they usually are. It's fun and meditative and a nice way to t get completely familiar with the subject.

Anotherone of my little gouache paintings. i tried to capture a magical moment that happens in Laguna Beach when the sun is setting and her light reflects off the receding tide as well as the windows on the hillside homes. Sometimes I have to remind myself how lucky I am to be able to witness this entertainment from my studio while I am at work.

The finished drawing for "Courtship" - I have recently rediscovered my love for intricate graphite drawing - usually a detailed work drawing is part of my process for my oil paintings but I had not given it the attention to stand as their own pieces. It used to be my preferred medium as a very young person and it is funny to me that I get back to my roots so to speak.
My favorite ground is smooth Bristol and I use Staedtler Mars Luminograph pencils in the full range from 8H to 6B.
