Word of the Day: Palanquin

A palanquin is an ornate, covered conveyance used throughout Asia, traditionally carried by bearers and designed to transport one person in comfort and ceremony. Often associated with royalty, ritual, and long journeys, the palanquin reflects both movement and status.

In On the Verge or The Geography of Yearning, the palanquin evokes themes of travel, cultural encounter, and the many ways people are carried, physically and symbolically, across borders, eras, and expectations.
