How to remove Canadian thistles from your flower field 🌻

This new tool might be my favorite! It’s called Grampa’s Weeder and it’s going to save my back. While the sunflowers are still in this baby stage, I can walk through and easily remove the thistles. Once the sunflowers get tall enough, they’ll start to shade them out. But in the meantime, I’ll use this to give them a hand!

I’m having such a great day at the LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce ConnectHER conference! It’s always great to be surrounded by like-minded people. 🌻

This weather isn’t pretty, but our plants are loving it. 🌱🌧️

First two pictures are the 1st succession of sunflowers. There’s a lot more green now than there was just a few days ago!

Next two pictures are some of the new rows we put in. These were just planted on Sunday - I’m so impressed with how many plants we already have on day 6! At this rate we might even have to thin some of these marigolds and zinnias. 😅

Honk if you see me out working this week! 👋🌻

Our new plastic mulch layer did a great job - now we just have to get all 16 (😱) rows planted! I am so excited to be adding so many flower varieties to our farm this year. And zucchini. Very excited about adding zucchini, because who doesn’t love zucchini?! 🤣

Farming - an experiment in “trusting the process” 🌱

If I’m being honest, that’s one of the hardest parts of this whole gig for me. I like to be in control and I like to know what the plan is. With farming, Mother Nature holds the cards and I just have to play whatever hand she deals me. So anyways… the cards for the 2026 sunflower season have been dealt. Can’t wait to see what this hand will bring us come mid July. 🌻🫶🏻

Who is ready for this year's line up for BBQ & Brews in the Blooms 2026?! Be sure to hit Going or Interested, you won't want to miss this!

This year we will have Hop River Brewing Company here serving up their brews. Look at how cute their latest beer can is - it will look great in our sunflower field!

For the music we will have... local favorites, Showdown! We had them on the roster last year but the weather made us change the date last minute and they couldn't make the new date work. We are so excited to finally have them out!

And of course Gunthorp Farms will be here with their roasted pork sandwiches & baked beans.

I have a few more feelers out for some other additions to this local food celebration. Our event is during Northeast Indiana Local Food Network's Local Food Week. We are so excited to help NILFN celebrate!

Big, big dreams for our new event barn coming this year! We found a great deal on folding benches this weekend… after we had already found a really great deal on (very cheap) chairs. We are ready for a full house. Guess how many people we can now sit at any of our events?! 🤩

Not only will our barn space be used for all of the classes and experiences that I’m hosting during the sunflower season this year (Ed won’t have to set up the tent every time I have a wild idea! 😉) but it will also be available to rent for private events. I CANNOT wait to get the barn cleared out & get the season rolling! 🌻🌻🌻

I kicked off Mother’s Day Weekend by attending the Lagrange County Arts in Bloom fundraiser last night with my mom! 💐🫖🩷

It was a beautiful evening for a great cause. I was super excited - I was the highest bidder on a silent auction coffee basket featuring a mug and goodies! Plus I get to keep the poster, you know you’ll find that in the She Shed Shop this summer. supports so much creativity in our county. 🫶🏻

Off-season on a flower farm doesn’t exactly mean time off. 🌻

Some of my favorite off-season tasks are the ones that involve networking, planning, brainstorming, and collaborating - all tasks that make the actual u-pick season a million times better for my guests!

I wasn’t working in the dirt, but a whole lot of seeds were sown behind the scenes last week. 😉🌱
