Happy birthday to jazz icon, Branford Marsalis! Born just down the road in Breaux Bridge, this 3-time Grammy-winner is one of the most celebrated and accomplished saxophonists of his generation.

He’ll be on stage at the Heymann, his first-ever performance in this region, with jazz superstar Dianne Reeves on Sunday, September 27. Wishing Branford another trip around the sun and a very happy birthday!

Saturday was lemon meringue pie day, so we decided to give our friends at the Heymann Center a treat! Except… they weren’t open on Saturday… and definitely not Sunday… and the box office is closed on Monday… so we brought it Tuesday!... and well… we’re posting this on Thursday…

That’s how crazy this arts business can be! And despite the craziness, the Heymann Center staff always works so hard and makes what we do at PASA pasable… get it…? Enough goofing around. Please join us in thanking the Heymann Center for all that they do!

The Martha Graham Dance Company is one of the most influential forces in modern dance history.

Here are 5 things you may not know about Martha Graham Dance Company:

1) Martha Graham founded her dance company and school in 1926, working out of a small studio in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

2) Graham developed a technique built around movements like contraction and release, creating a new way for dancers to express emotion through the body.

3) Over the past 100 years, the Graham Company has been home to generations of dancers, more than 400, and choreographers, including Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp and Erick Hawkins.

4) Graham’s collaborators included composer Aaron Copland, sculptor Isamu Noguchi and designers like Halston, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. She even created roles for dancers like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Rudolf Nureyev.

5) GRAHAM100 marks the company’s centennial with performances of Graham’s classic works alongside new choreography inspired by her legacy.
