The Martha Graham Dance Company is one of the most influential forces in modern dance history.

1) Martha Graham founded her dance company and school in 1926, working out of a small studio in Carnegie Hall in New York City.
2) Graham developed a technique built around movements like contraction and release, creating a new way for dancers to express emotion through the body.
3) Over the past 100 years, the Graham Company has been home to generations of dancers, more than 400, and choreographers, including Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp and Erick Hawkins.
4) Graham’s collaborators included composer Aaron Copland, sculptor Isamu Noguchi and designers like Halston, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. She even created roles for dancers like Mikhail Baryshnikov and Rudolf Nureyev.
5) GRAHAM100 marks the company’s centennial with performances of Graham’s classic works alongside new choreography inspired by her legacy.
