I started Kidz Performing Arts Company (formerly Kidz Kabaret) in 2012 when I was 19 years old because I wanted to give kids the same opportunity I had as a child - the ability to have a creative outlet as a safe place to be yourself. A place to escape to and be silly and loud and not feel judged. For nearly ten years, I strived to create that kind of environment for every child that has been a part of this program, whether they were only in one show or they have been in it from the beginning and I’ve fondly watched them grow over the years.
We’ve had quite a memorable journey with KPAC, from its humble beginnings with classes of only three or four students to overflowing rosters of more than 40 kids in productions that would fill up within 48 hours. We’ve worked with the most talented, magical, ambitious kids in the area, and I will always be proud of what they accomplish every time they walk on stage.
I’d like to thank the staff at Cité des Arts for allowing KPAC to make a home here all these years.
I’d like to thank all the staff members who have worked with KPAC over the years to provide an unparalleled level of theatre education, like Ms. Abby who has been a staple of this company as vocal director. Ms. Madelyn has been the driving force that has kept this company going. KPAC would not be where it is today and would have seen its end many years ago if it were not for Ms. Madelyn’s perseverance, dedication, selflessness, and love for each and every child. I will forever be indebted to her because of the work she has done for these kids.
Above all, I want to thank all the families who have been a part of this youth theatre company. Parentz, please know that you have done the most important thing you could ever do for your child - believing in them and allowing them to follow their passion. I know because I have parents who did that for me.
As this show comes to a close, I am not mourning the end of KPAC; I’m celebrating the beginning of many young lives going out into the world being touched by this program. It has truly been the greatest blessing in my life and the highest honor I have ever received to work with these kids.
