Southern Gothic: Literary Intersections with Art from the Johnson Collection - on view October 1, 2026–January 3, 2027
This fall the LSU Museum of Art presents Southern Gothic: Literary Intersections with Art from The Johnson Collection. Drawing from the celebrated holdings of The Johnson Collection in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Louisiana institutions and private collectors, this exhibition explores how visual artists have grappled with the American South’s layered history through a lens long cultivated in Southern literature.

Has anyone seen this painting?
"Le grande pecan", 6' H x 4' W, acrylics. Painted in the 1980s by Louisiana artist Robert Dafford. (it was sold by it's owners, along with the house it was in, in the the early 2000s and its location and current owners are no longer known)
The Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, LA is seeking to borrow it for an upcoming exhibition. They will provide insurance, transport and handling, and some conservation of damage from 40 years aging if any is needed. Please contact the Acadiana Center for the Arts or Robert Dafford if you believe you have seen this painting in the last 20 years. Please share.
