Did you know- The French horn isn’t actually French!

Despite its name, the instrument we call the French horn developed primarily in Germany, which is why many musicians simply call it the “horn.” In fact, its official orchestral name is just horn.

Next Thursday, the Lafayette Symphony’s horn section will be performing a fun program of popular tunes including: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Yesterday, Someone to Love, Don’t Stop Believing, and Space Kittens!

Presenting the 2026 Nolan Hibner Award Recipient: Sharon Weyser!

At our last MainStage concert on May 16th at the The Long Center for the Performing Arts, Sharon Weyser was awarded the prestigious Nolan Hibner Award.

The Nolan Hibner Award is an annual distinction given by the players of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra to one of its members. Dr. Hibner was a founding member and Principal Clarinetist with the orchestra for many years and supported the Symphony in many different capacities. Candidates for the award are expected to have been a member of the LSO for at least five years. They are nominated by the players, and a winner is chosen by ballot of the members. Past awardees have shown longtime commitment and generous support for the organization beyond simply playing during rehearsals and concerts.
