“We envision an Acadiana that thrives because people from all walks of life are inspired to participate in a dynamic cultural life where everyone can feel that they belong, thanks to the efforts of the regional arts council.” -Vision 2030, AcA’s Strategic Plan

This week AcA took a trip down to Franklin, LA for an all-staff retreat where we discussed, dissected, and digested the new strategic plan.

Over the course of the next 7 years, you’ll see a series of initiatives, both big and small, implemented by the AcA team in an effort to fulfill our “Vision 2030” and our mission of Fostering Art & Culture in Acadiana.

If you’re interested in reading the full strategic plan, you can download a copy on our website.
If you’re interested in being involved in the implementation of our new strategic plan, become a member of the AcA today.

The Coalition of Performing Arts Presenters in Lafayette is asking for an appropriate and expert-led public process to determine the future of the Heymann Performing Arts Center—our city’s most vital performing arts asset.

Our hope is to build unity in Lafayette around the need and opportunity for this project through the rigorous approach proposed by the City Council, which will be voted on during their December 20 meeting.

Perspectives: Rebecca D. Henry

Now eighty-one years old, Henry was born in Leonville, in St. Landry Parish; a sharecropper’s daughter and one of six children. “And I’m not old—I asked for longevity,” Henry insisted, laughing. “I don’t care. Give me all the years that I can have …There's no limit as to what you can do in one lifetime.” She is among a dwindling number of individuals who still have vivid memories of growing up within the sharecropping lifestyle, and all the hardships that came with it.

We can't wait to see what y'all come up with!

Big announcement!

The Louisiana Partnership for the Arts is seeking artists to submit design proposals for a Louisiana Specialty Prestige License Plate benefiting the arts in Louisiana.

LPA board member Barry Stevens, who serves as the President and CEO of the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council, said, “We are seeking a piece of artwork that considers and reflects on Louisiana’s artistic history, diversity, and cultural profile. This plate should represent the life-changing and transformative impact of the arts in Louisiana.”

The Louisiana Partnership for the Arts (LPA) received approval in the 2022 legislative session to issue a Specialty Louisiana License Plate to celebrate the arts in Louisiana. Proceeds from the sale of these license plates will be used for the LPA’s educational and engagement efforts and other related programs on behalf of public support for the arts in the state of Louisiana.

The proposal selected by the committee will receive a monetary award of $1,000. The artist will also be invited to join the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts at the unveiling of the new plate in Baton Rouge at Arts Day at the Capitol in 2023.

Proposals are due on January 15, 2023 through the portal at artforlouisiana.com. This commission is open statewide to working artists 18 and over. See full guidelines on the LPA’s website.
The Louisiana Partnership for the Arts, a 501c3 organization, was established in the late 1990’s to be the statewide organization representing the broad and diverse spectrum of artists, arts professionals, arts educators, cultural organizations, and agencies and all those who produce, present, and serve arts and culture in Louisiana.

The LPA strives to lead in the establishment of statewide arts policies that advance the growth and development of the arts and culture field. LPA strives to foster partnerships, collaborations, and develop relationships with all entities, agencies, and individuals who make up the cultural industry of Louisiana. Importantly, the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts works to educate the citizens of Louisiana to the value of public support for the arts.

As someone who loves the performing arts and the silver screen, I found a really amazing film called Ruby In Paradise that I would like to recommend to this community! It follows the journey of a young woman named Ruby as she tries to take control of her life and make her way in the world after cutting all ties with her old life. Ultimately, it’s an honest and relatable story of the main character seeking her independence and trying to find herself. To me, this movie gave meaning to the everyday moments in life as we followed Ruby going through life, experiencing the mundane and profound moments mixed together. For anyone interested, I streamed it on Amazon. I think that this movie can resonate with young people trying to find their place in the world. I hope you all get a chance to watch it!

Don't miss this original play by Alicia Chiasson! This live-action sci-fi show will follow three heroes as they attempt to find a control planet that may hold the key for preserving Earth. Through humor, ambition, wonder, boredom, and ethical dilemmas, we’ll see humanity’s relationship to outer space.
I can not tell you how upset I was yesterday. I went to see my granddaughters self portrait and never found it. I hope next year you will be more organized and will label the art work by schools and let the students put their names on them. It breaks my heart that I have to tell her I didn't get to see it. This was important to her.
