The Villages Pops Chorus is searching for a new director to succeed Bill Davis, our esteemed founder, and director since the chorus’s inception in 2014. Due to some health concerns, in early 2025 he will be moving to Charlotte, NC, to be closer to family.
The Villages Pops Chorus is a vibrant singing group consisting of 135-140 members. While all the chorus members are volunteers, the director will hold a paid position.
Our purpose is threefold.
1) To perform a variety of popular genres including Broadway, Hollywood, the Great Standards, Jazz, Country, Rock, Rhythm and Blues, and Pop music.
2) To provide Villages residents with an opportunity to sing choral arrangements from these diverse genres.
3) To raise funds exclusively for charitable purposes having donated nearly $300,000 over the past decade.
The ideal candidate for the director position should exhibit key personal attributes:
1) Resident of The Villages
2) Experience with directing chorus groups (senior chorus experience is a plus)
3) Knowledge, interest, and experience in popular music
4) Energetic and animated personality
5) Ability to make rehearsals and concerts enjoyable
6) Skill in conveying the relevance and emotion of a song
7) Long-term commitment to the role
8) Ability to select suitable music for the group’s skill level and interests
9) Respectful of chorus members and their time
10) Strong organizational skills
The chorus has formed a board of directors and various committees to manage essential functions like marketing and membership. The new director will collaborate with these groups as needed to ensure the chorus operates smoothly.
