Seasoned Projections

A few comments asked if my house was light or dark (based on the brightness of the projection). Here is my house during the day, for reference. It is a mix of light and dark.

I have had a few comments asking about how projection mapping works. The first step is to draw your house. You use the resulting "map" and bring it into software such as Adobe After Effects and can use the various boundaries of your map to add, subtract, and blend light ln your house facade. Here is a picture of my mapping used in my videos. I hope this help folks "picture" the process a bit!

My first after effects developed projection mapping production was based on Michael Jackson's "Thriller". This was a blast to work on as the song is absolutely perfect for Halloween. It was a ton of work though, as this was one of my first advanced after effects shows. I learned quite a few techniques in this video on this video. Shout out to Red Giant for making some amazing After Effects supporting tools. My go to effects were their "Universe" tools such as Universe "Finisher" and "Ecto". I used these on many layers. One of the big lessons on this project was that working with 4K video is a PITA! After this project, I upgraded my workstation....4K video is a beast to work edit. Here is my Halloween 2020 video based on "Thriller". Enjoy!

One of my first after Effects based projection mapping videos was Disney based. It had a different vibe than my Halloween shows (this one was for Christmas 2020), but was a bunch of fun.

I really expanded my use of the Red Giant tools in this video. Trapcode Particular, Universe Ecto, Transitions, and Finisher were also used often. They definitely require some serious power to run, but look great!
