MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!

We are getting closer to getting the video gaming machines in the bowling alley, and then we will be opening shortly afterwards. We have to get fingerprinted, and then the Illinois gaming association has to come out to inspect the premises and confirm gaming location inside the bowling alley.

We are juggling around the idea of opening a non-sanctioned league for those interested and also hosting weekly bowling competitons where you can win money!

We will update along the way. Thanks for all your patience.

We had Ameren come out today and turn the electric and gas on to the bowling alley! We will be submitting our video gaming application tomorrow! And we will be scheduling some meetings with past staff soon to go over a checklist of items needed to open up the bowling alley! We will be doing a thorough cleaning as well…

We still have to meet with beverage vendors and we would like to add a soda gun to have fountain pop instead of cans. We are not sure if we will add the soda gun right away or in a couple months. We also will add a food menu about a month or so after we open. We will have to apply for food certification and have anyone handling food also certified as well.

Shout out to Scott Wonder for taking time out of his schedule today to meet Ameren at the bowling alley, thank you again Scott, much appreciated!

We would like to know your thoughts… we have received several suggestions to offer 21+ (year olds) a place to meet and get together on Saturday nights (after bowling is concluded). Some people have called it EDM which is short for Electronic Dance Music. It’s popular for after hours bowling alleys and was brought to my attention recently.

The bowling alley could be large enough to host these types of events, we understand there is not too many larger venues in the local area where groups can get together.

What are your thoughts? Do you know people 21+ that would be interested in something like this on Saturday nights? If people like this idea we were thinking of advertising in surrounding towns to bring people out from other local areas.

Thank you in advance!

We just put one coat of cement block primer (not paint) on the building today. Sherwin Williams made a mistake and gave us 1 dark grey five gallon bucket and the other 5 in the light gray we originally requested. So we tried out the two-tone dark gray/light gray look even though the real paint colors will be slightly different. Also we plan on eventually painting the gutters, downspouts, doors, and other accents in black color. Hopefully we can get a few more warm days before the winter sets in otherwise we might have to wait for future updates when the weather gets warm again (paint needs 50-90 degrees in order to cure/dry properly)

We will also be repairing the mortar before officially painting

Long overdue… but now that we are active on this page we would like to give a BIG thank you to Donna Wood and her son Jerry (who is going to assist us with maintaining the lanes and training our staff on future maintenance) as well as the previous bar manager Scott Wonder and many others for being so gracious to help throughout the transition process. We hope to provide an atmosphere that caters to league bowlers/recreational bowlers and families/children alike. Thank you everyone, for being so supportive, I think the city of Lacon has some of the best people and I have been to a lot of cities/towns small and large. Thank you again!

We are planning on painting the outside of the building and changing the colors from red/cream white to a two-tone medium grey / light grey combination. First step is to apply a special primer designed for concrete block. So you may see the outside turn light grey soon (that’s the primer) and then the second step is to paint light grey on top and medium grey on the bottom. We might even paint the beams that stick out black to give it a 3 tone color look. We would also like to get some larger signage and good lighting. We welcome all thoughts…thank you in advance

Thank you Tara Lydia for connecting us to the existing page!

Hello my name is Matthew and my family and I are the new owners of Lacon Bowl (formerly Lacon Lanes). We changed the name to Lacon Bowl for search engine optimization, branding, and marketing purposes. We wanted to keep the name close to the original.

We hope to open in December 2025. We will have an exact date in the next month or so. We had to apply for our local liquor license in Lacon which we were granted swiftly (thank you town of Lacon for the quick speedy process!). Illinois Liquor Commission was next, our application was submitted but they want a couple more pieces of information. 1) they want a commercial lease agreement which we created today and we will upload that document to the Illinois Department of Revenue website, and 2) they want us to file our deed with the Marshall county courthouse which we will do tomorrow before the close of business.

Then we are applying for our gaming license to have up to 6 gaming machines. We are going to create a formal gaming area where adults can play games in a peaceful location away from all the foot traffic. We are also going to move all the kids arcade games inside the bowling alley area instead of being close to the outside door for safety reasons and parents can keep an eye on their children better since they will be inside the bowling alley instead of near the front door entrance.

We are planning on adding 2 arcade games in the bar area for adults to play (buck hunter, and golden tee).

We will have $12 bucket specials all day everyday (5 mix and match domestic beers for $12)

We are also planning on adding a basic food menu (pizza, wings, hot dogs, fried appetizers, etc)

We would like to feature a couple signature cocktails like the High Roller (old fashioned smoked with wood chips of your choice) for example.

We want to make this bowling alley a family atmosphere that caters to everyone from children to league bowlers. We are going to have kids parties starting at $99 for 2 hours which will include up to 6 children (more can be added, inquire for details please)

We also want to have bowling contests (kids and adults) video gaming contests, and host a variety of events and fundraisers.

It’s our first year so we might be a little slow to roll everything out, but we want to make sure everything is done right and for that reason things may take a little time. But once we get going, we have lots of ideas we would like to add but we also don’t want to overwhelm our staff with too many moving parts at first. We appreciate everyone’s patience, if you have any suggestions or questions please never hesitate to contact me directly “Matthew”

Thank you,

Matthew

P.S. thank you again Tara!
