I had so much fun drawing 5 minute caricature/portraits of my Lostant Grade School students last week. We talked about how to draw a simple and accurate portrait by identifying a few basic features about the person like face shape, hair and eyes. They all loved being "art models" and were so happy with their finished caricatures.

I apologize for posting these so late! Had a busy week..We finished up our clay unit at Deer Park last week, so many great projects and so fun! Favorite by far was the donut sculptures. Everyone was very enthusiastic! Very creative and colorful!

Have to share this student's "work in progress."
She loves the impressionist style and has been studying works by Monet. I don't usually have my students copy /reproduce the works of other artists, but in this case Monet's art was used to teach so many things at once, all in one painting. Choosing a color palette and mixing of colors, brush work, use of horizontal and vertical line. Its her first time working on a round canvas too, so thats an added challenge. We also made a couple "Mini Monets" with paint markers. She's almost finished! Super proud of her!

The art of caricature artist, Al Hirshfeld was our subject this week at Putnam County. We learned about his long career as an artist, and we explored a few of his celebrity and political portraits. We all tried drawing some caricatures, and I drew a few portraits of students too! So fun!
