The American Express The American Express™, held annually at PGA WEST and La Quinta Country Club returns to the Desert for its 67th playing, January 19-25, 2026.

The American Express™ is a 72-hole PGA TOUR event that every January, features 156 of the world’s best golfers playing for a $8 million purse. It is part of the FedExCup and often provides the winners of the event a precursor to a successful season. Past champions include World Golf Hall-of-Famers Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Johnny Miller and Phil Mickelson, and PGA TOUR favorites Patrick Reed, C

harley Hoffman, Jon Rahm, and Jason Dufner. As one of the few tournaments contested on more than one course, the The American Express™ is played at the famed Stadium Course at PGA WEST, the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA WEST and the venerable La Quinta Country Club, a course that once featured President Dwight Eisenhower as a member. Eisenhower’s involvement as a presenter set a precedent for Presidential participation in the pro-am event, for many years later, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton -- who played while in office and whose foundation is now a valued partner – all played in the event. Since its inception, The American Express™, a PGA TOUR event in the Coachella Valley, has contributed more than $63 million to a wide range of Coachella Valley charitable organizations. The scope of giving is broad and includes health and wellness, youth sports, family support, education and homelessness.

Congratulations to Larry Bohannan, longtime Golf Columnist for The Desert Sun, on a truly remarkable career and a well-earned retirement.
 
Last December at our Media & Sponsor Day, The American Express Tournament Staff, led by Executive Director Pat McCabe, honored Larry’s 40+ years covering this event by naming the Media Center in his honor. 
 
During Media & Sponsor Day, Larry shared stories of Arnold Palmer and noted that a World No. 1 had yet to win this event… of course that changed in 2026.
In his final week on-site, Larry witnessed history as World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler triumphed. Larry then asked the first question in the winner’s press conference, fitting for one of the most respected voices in golf.
 
After filing his final story, Larry exited the Media Center bearing his name to a well-deserved standing ovation. It was an unforgettable send-off for someone whose career has been deeply intertwined with this tournament.
 
Congratulations, Larry, and best of luck in your next chapter.
