What does the Emerging Artists Quartet Residency actually look like?

For six weeks each summer, one pre-formed string quartet joins us on Madeline Island for an immersive mix of coaching, performing, and community engagement.

Daily faculty coaching.
Weekly lessons and performances.
Time carved out for rehearsal and individual practice.
A featured full-length concert.
And meaningful work in the Madeline Island and Bayfield communities—house concerts, lecture demos, children’s programs, and more.

In the fall, the quartet reconnects in Minneapolis–St. Paul for a week-long paid residency with workshops, outreach events, and a featured performance.

If you’re new here, this residency is designed for quartets in the early stages of their professional careers—groups looking to deepen their ensemble identity, gain real teaching experience, and build connections both on and off the stage.

Big news for 2026! Madeline Island Chamber Music is expanding to a six-week summer season with two flexible three-week sessions. Students can now choose between a full session (June 21–August 2) or join us for one of two three-week programs — including our new strings and piano chamber music option in Session 2.

With around 50 students each summer, MICM offers an immersive, close-knit experience where intensive rehearsals, inspiring faculty, and the beauty of Madeline Island come together to shape both musicianship and lifelong friendships.
